Kassler is nothing like ham or a hotdog!

Kassler or Kasseler in German cuisine is the name given to a salted (cured) and slightly smoked cut of pork similar to gammon.

That style of cuban sandwich is called midnight sandwich "sándwich de media noche". It's the kind of bite that you would eat after a night out, or when you would be coming home late from work.
It was more popular than the one made with French bread!

The Cubano is one of my favorites! Now try a Germano! I had some left over pork schnitzel, so instead of roast pork I used that along with German mustard (sadly, no German pickles as I didn't have any) and it was even better than a Cubano.

Wait wait wait wait I know for a FACT that there are some spectacular german roast pork butt recipes out there because I've MADE them from an old Bavarian friend who requested it for his birthday and gave me the recipe. I was surprised at how similar it is in style to a cuban roast pork like my grandmother used to make! I demand you remake this sandwich with a nice slow roasted Bayerischer Schweinebraten or Krustenbraten! I'm sure it will be even BETTER! So many succulent spices and more succulent, juicy meats!
