biggest thing with disarms is knowing your movements and not telegraphing them, there is a disarm I like to use in training that knocks the back of the wrist hard enough to make them drop the weapon, however it's still risky if done wrong, always keep in mind a few things, move out of the way of the barrel, keep close distance, control the weapon, be ready for the weapon to go off

I'm 4 dan Karate master and always I taught to move away the body form the trajectory of the gun, in my self defence lessons !

Will only work if you have those movements as muscle memory and perform them with speed and intent.

Key is shock and awe, don’t let them see coming and execute with extreme prejudice!

In other words, scare them, do it fast, don’t give them time to realize what is happening so they don’t know how to react, and do it violently to overwhelm them.

I saw a better one in "Burn Notice". In it, he turned into the shooter's body, so they were both facing the same direction, while getting control of the shooter's gun with both hands. He then proceeded to break the trigger finger of the hand with the gun in it in order to get it away from him (If I'm remembering correctly. I haven't seen it in forever).

I think I'll stick with that technique.
