NI Kontakt - Features Review - pt 5 - The Browser - How To Tutorial

This week we continue our series on the basics of Kontakt with a look at Kontakt's built-in browser. The Browser is a critical part of Kontakt and is where you organize files used in Kontakt. It also allows you to browse your file system for Kontakt objects, such as instruments and samples.

When the Files tab is activated, you are presented with 2 panes, an audition bar, and an optional 3rd pane known as the Instrument Navigator. The upper pane allows you to browse the files on your system. This allows you to quickly navigate your system files for Kontakt specific objects.

The middle pane displays the contents of the current folder that are usable by Kontakt. Each item is presented using four columns. These four columns display the files name, the size, the tempo, and the date. This is handy for when you need more information to locate a specific file.

The Instrument Navigator is optional, and can be turned on and off by enabling the Instrument Navigator button near the tabs on the top right of the Browser. The Instrument Navigator pane shows a list of all the instruments in your rack. It displays the instruments name, and allows you to quickly solo or mute the instrument. When you are editing an instrument, Double-clicking the instruments name will quickly load that instrument. This is a great way to test settings between instruments.

The Libraries tab allows you quick access to Kontakt Libraries that have been installed on your computer. You can drag and drop, or double click an instrument to load the instrument in the Multi Rack. You can libraries by clicking Add Library under the Libraries tab.
