Why is Germany’s far-right AfD party so successful? Because of immigration.

Sounds like germany is going the same way as my country, sweden.
The regular parties didnt listen and the swedish democrats are now the biggest party, even immigrants voted for them..

“Ban the opposition, who is rapidly gaining support because of our failures” — completely normal action of a democratic nation

German people would not lean towards AFD if the traditional parties do a good job. I am not surprised why people are looking for alternatives now.

Opposing unregulated migration makes one far right?

They see that immigration isn't the ethical solution to population decline, and importing a tax paying second class to support the old while neglecting the young leads to trouble.

is Berlin as disconnected to rural Germany as London is to England?

Wanting to reduce immigration is racist? By that logic any immigration law is racist and borders are racist lol. Maybe take care of your citizens before foreigners, that's the job of the German government. After that you can help foreigners. Countries belong to citizens

"Intelligence agencies" say a major political party is a "threat to democracy, " so there are calls to ban it... this is like a Monty Python skit.

In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany.
The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed.
People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.

The Problem is not a German problem.
Similar issues exist in the US, the UK, Poland, Italy, Hungary ...

Not very balanced reporting. You interview 3 people, all who are extremely negative to the party. Then you discuss banning the political party like the only issue with that is that they might get more support. Not because it is immoral and authoritarian to ban political parties. I usually find DW to bring high quality news but this was the worst segment I have ever seen from your channel.

Because politicians stopped listening to people. So they have no choice
