Alright, Kevin. Great overview 👍 I agree, there's not really much you can't do on either platform. Maybe the big differences are things like processing power but that applies to both platforms anyway. There are more powerful iPhones compared to other iPhones and it's the same for Android.

Although I use iPhone for my phone I also use Google cloud stuff. Like you, I was essentially an Android person and had used Google Docs for ages and still use Docs now that I'm on iPhone. In fact, Docs is probably better overall as most nearly anyone can use them if you share them.

Even with things like the cameras, you'd be hard pushed to dislike any cameras on any flagships these days. Although saying that, I do prefer the skin tones on the S24 Ultra and the picture off the S24 Ultra is more immediate in my opinion. With the 15 Pro Max I find that I have to mess with it in post and maybe record log and do a bunch of stuff in post. Which in my opinion is completely unnecessary for what you'd typically use a phone for. The video quality between the S24 Ultra and the 15 Pro Max are definitely different but both produce pictures that can easily rival a "proper" video camera for day to day shooting.

One thing that you mentioned which is so true, is that you have to be careful and not get sucked into Apple's ecosystem. I use a bunch of Apple stuff and Hide My Email is something I couldn't live without now that I have been using it for a year or so. You also very quickly get used to the way the Apple devices talk to each other. Even the simple function of answering a call to your iPhone on an iPad is something that works flawlessly and is super convenient if your phone is in your pocket in a jacket hanging up and your iPad is in front of you. I have a few friends who use Apple and we usually talk via FaceTime. Yet another Apple thing that's hard to walk away from if you use it.

Saying all that, you do have to pay for all these things and that's where Apple basically have you over a barrel.

As I also use two Macs and an Apple TV, I'm basically f....ed 🤣 And have definitely been sucked into the Apple ecosystem. Whether you like or agree with Apple, you definitely can't deny that they are the masters of taking more and more money from you after you buy into their products.

Also, as far as the phones are concerned. Historically, people have always used the argument that iPhones cost way more than Android phones. This hasn't actually been the case for some time. The Samsung Ultra and Fold phones are also very expensive and even Google's main flagship has been creeping up in price and they aren't as powerful as an Ultra or Pro Max.

Bottom line, and I totally agree with you. Android vs iOS is pretty pointless. On a personal note, other than making videos that show one beating the other in very specific use case scenarios, which I'm obviously doing to get views and to make money. Putting an S24 Ultra up against a 15 Pro Max, as an example, is simply futile, as both are amazing phones that will outdo each other in certain (mostly useless) very specific use case scenarios.

Actually, last thing. There are very specific uses where one may be the reason for buying. In the case of gaming as an example, while the 15 Pro Max on paper has the more powerful processing, especially for graphics. The best phone, hands down, for gaming, is the RedMagic 9 Pro. And what's strange with that phone is that although it uses the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that's in the S24 Ultra. The RedMagic is definitely better, due to it having the overclocking function. Plus, and this is a massive plus point, the RedMagic is half the price of both the 15 Pro Max and S24 Ultra. There's also other things such as power delivery, which you mentioned, which if it's super important to you could well be the final point for a buying decision. Plus things like interfacing with external hardware via USB-C maybe be a big deal for someone, as it is with me, and iOS does have certain advantages with external hardware. But overall for your average user, there really isn't much in it.

Anyway. I will be ordering the 16 Pro Max as soon as it goes on pre-sale, maybe tomorrow. And will be doing a bunch of useless comparison videos 😆

Cheers,
Dave.
