When we Brits hear Americans say, "Yeah, we've been to England. We stayed in London then flew back home.", our hearts sink just a little.

We live in the Lake District. So glad you like our home. It is a truly beautiful place. There's a reason England is called 'Gods green and pleasant land'.
PS: all the walls are hand built and maintained by the Lake District. It's a very specific skill in the UK building stone walls with no mortar. Each block is carefully chosen to balance the entire wall.

The Lakedistrict is one of the many reasons why we're always trying to tell tourists not to just go to London. There are some wonderful towns and villages in the area too.

England is known as a "green and pleasant land".

The rules are "take only photos, leave only footprints".

Hebrides in Scotland is also beautiful. There lots of little islands. I live about an 1 hours drive away from the lake district, but i love Scotland. Edinburgh is a beautiful city. I also love the coastal and country places like Northumberland too. We have some great places in the UK, not forgetting Wales too.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL VISITORS TO OUR COUNTRY: If you go through a gate, close it after you. The thing about the U.K. is there are lots of public pathways on peoples lands, that you can walk, along which you can't do in some countries. But you have to remember, these people might have animals such as sheep or cows. The owners won't want their animals straying and getting hit by cars. Oh and bin all your rubbish/trash. You wouldn't like people throwing rubbish into your gardens/yards, so don't throw it on people's property.

Not sure if anyone's already mentioned this. The Lake District is as it is because the author Beatrice Potter moved to the area and successfully bought up many farms. This prevented property developers building, thus preserving the beautiful landscape. That's why you see cattle and sheep whose grazing activity maintains the land as well.

Although born in England I grew up in Australia (am 71), I have been back to the UK on four occasions with two magnificent days in the Lakes District with absolutely perfect weather, and I can attest that it is so peaceful, so beautiful, and so calming it is extraordinary.

We have a week’s timeshare in a cottage in Bowness on Windermere right beside Lake Windermere, which is the biggest and most famous lake in the Lake District. We live about 150 miles away. We go every year in mid-August and in the last 25 years we’ve only had 2 weeks of sunny hot weather, it generally rains much of the time, I suppose that’s why the beautiful lakes exist! We don’t walk much (preferring to go on mini-bus tours around the area) but we do have our favourite restaurants and villages that we frequent every year! The food is absolutely fantastic!

I feel so privileged to be living and studying at Uni in Ambleside. And I have a bus pass, so it is free for me to travel almost every day around the Lake District. It's beautiful.

I'm not much of a photographer, but when I took pictures of the Lake District everybody described them as "National Geographic quality." Rolling green hills, stonewalls and bridges, sheep, and misty gray skies. One of the most beautiful places on the planet.

13:43 "What are these?"
We Dutch call them "Vingerhoedkruid" - literally "Thimble-herb" - but I believe the English name is "Foxglove". The official name is Digitalis Purpurea and it is an ancient medical herb which used to be used as treatment for epilepsy and seizures. It was also used to treat heart conditions at least since 1752 when it was first described in scientific literature. The current heart medication "Digitalin" is based on the working compounds of this plant... Besides that it is simply a stunningly beautiful plant.

How many times. An English Muffin is NOT a crumpet.

I have been to the Lakes many times.
My late wife's ashes are sprinkled on top of HELM CRAG/THE LION AND THE LAMB.
Once you get out of the towns, it's peace and quiet. You might not see another person....hopefully. Just plenty of Herdwick sheep.
ENGLISH MUFFIN and CRUMPET are two different things
The stone walls are a feature of the Lake district. They are hundreds of years old and separate the different fields. The people who rebuild them are true craftsmen.
TARN = Mountain lake.

I was born in Bolton which is about 60/70 miles from the Lake district, we would drive up almost every weekend just to have a walk/hike and perhaps some lunch in a pub. go to lake Windermere in the summer and you will see as many tourists as you need.
