1986 Mustang GT Project - Complete Dash Assembly Replacement - PART 1

Показать описание
Replacing your entire dash out of your fox. In this video I find a "less cracked" dash from an '85 convertible.

My dash had JB WELD holding it together. I could no longer look at the massive putty fix and decided to source a replacement for it. In this video we pull the stock complete dash out of the car. In part 2, we'll paint and prep the one one and reassemble it!

I am almost done with my ‘86 dash only I took it apart to replace some severely rusted dash frame pieces and to clean up the wiring harness. Good job documenting this because I didnt take enough photos and had many scratching my head moments.

Everything is nuts and bolts (and some electrical plugs). At least that’s what I tell myself when working on my 86. Patience, patience, patience. Great job Mike!

Definitely worth it... Perfect doesn't come easy! Maybe next time prep and paint first so you can assemble and install the new dash while the placement of all the components and wires is fresh in your memory. Can't wait for part 2!

I'm putting in a replacement dash hull in my 84 Capri RS Turbo. Dash was in 3 pieces due to a radio theft before I bought it back in 99. I've watched most of your vid's and especially these 2 to see specific stuff about the harness and it's routing. Old vid, but still very useful. Thanks.

It’s worth it man. I changed out the dash of my 86 Merkur XR4Ti a few months ago. I know that sinking feeling you first get after taking the old dash out. HOWEVER... after you get the new dash in.. you will feel amazing, and won’t be able to keep your eyes off it. Thrust me it’s well worth it.

I have a good used dash for my 85 that I’m getting ready to install it’s great to see you tackling it first.

I think you did the right thing by tackling the project. You seem like me when it comes to eye sores, & it would’ve bugged you to death until it was corrected.plus you learn as you go & anytime you can save 💵, it’s always a good thing 👍🏽

Currently doing mine now. Watching your video has been so helpful. As of 2 am last night, I don’t know if it was worth it. Ask me at 2am tonight when everything is back in! lol

As a fellow fox owner, perfection is what we’re looking to achieve, u have the time to do the job, and to me if it was one little crack on the dash, hell yes I would replace the thing! Totally worth it Brother!

I think it is definitely worth doing. You got one of the most informational youtube channels around for foxbody content. And i know you got this one in the bag👍

I removed an 86 dash in 100+ degree weather. I thought it was a few bolts when I started. Boy was I wrong. My 85 has 37k miles and the interior is perfect but red. I actually have 2 grey dashboards and would like to take mine out and either replace it or paint it grey. Not a fun job. Maybe this spring. Lol good videos thanks for the info. Comes in very handy for people if they get stuck. 👍🏻

Totally worth it man, I’d put some filler on the back side of the dash around the cracks and common cracked areas for a little added strength

the dash is the jewelry box for the interior of the car, therefore i can fully understand your want to make it as nice as possible. no doubt very tough job, however good on ya for taking the challenge well done.

That's a crazy hard job but definitely worth it! Glad you documented it, I'll need to refer to it some day.

It's worth it and so is the video. There isnt a decent vid out there of doing it. I plan to do my 86 just so I can paint it black. I have the blue interior and I'm not a fan considering the car will be painted silver. Worth it but I'm sure I will have some nerves when I do it. Also get plastic weld or whatever its called. I saw it on fab forums and its dope stuff. Any plastic issues is fixed.

Thank you sir! This will be helpful as I re-install our '83 mustang dash. Hopefully I can get it back together.

It’s gonna be great, buddy. We are all over our heads when tackling something for the first time, but the experience will stay with us. You’re very lucky to live in an area where you have a go-to group for parts. I can’t find those gray GT halo seats for my 86 vert here in Arkansas anywhere!Great video!
