My 3 SIMPLE STEPS To Reverse Autoimmune DISEASE! | Dr. Terry Wahls

In health and medicine, we must always be willing to look deeper. We can’t give up on looking for healing solutions just because we’ve always been told a disease is progressive and incurable.

That’s one of the many reasons I’m so inspired by today’s guest on The Dhru Purohit Podcast. Dr. Terry Wahls received a diagnosis of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis and, instead of accepting a rapid decline in her function and quality of life, dove headfirst into looking for answers with long-lasting results. Dr. Wahls didn’t buy into the limits defined by her diagnosis and has completely changed the future of MS research and treatment options in the process.

Dr. Terry Wahls is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and a clinical professor of medicine at the University of Iowa where she conducts clinical trials. In 2018, she was awarded the Institute for Functional Medicine’s Linus Pauling Award for her contributions in research, clinical care, and patient advocacy.

Dr. Wahls was confined to a tilt-recline wheelchair for four years. She restored her health using a diet and lifestyle program she designed specifically for her brain and now pedals her bike to work each day. She is the author of The Wahls Protocol: A Radical New Way to Treat All Chronic Autoimmune Conditions Using Paleo Principles, and the cookbook The Wahls Protocol Cooking for Life.

In this episode, we dive into:
- Dr. Wahls’ story of being diagnosed with MS and how her transformation happened (1:30)
- How conventional medicine looks at health and disease vs. Functional Medicine (10:01)
- How to uncover the root cause of an autoimmune condition (16:48)
- The role toxin exposure plays when it comes to autoimmune conditions (28:17)
- Signs that an autoimmune condition is brewing (32:54)
- The first thing to think about when addressing an autoimmune condition (35:01)
- How eating 9+ cups of vegetables a day had a huge role in turning around Dr. Wahls’ health (45:26)
- The healing benefits of organ meats (53:39)
- Practical ways to increase vegetable consumption (1:03:27)
- What role anti-nutrients might play when it comes to autoimmune conditions (1:05:56)
- What Dr. Wahls’ diet looks like on a daily basis (1:10:04)
- The power of movement when it comes to healing an autoimmune condition (1:16:59)
- Figuring out your why as you begin your healing journey (1:26:57)

Most doctor's do not want to help you, but just fill give endless medications that further break down all e organs. People, handle your own health!

5 Autoimmune diseases here. I have graft vs host disease which is my entire immune attacking my entire body due to it rejecting my 2nd bone marrow donor. I also have scleroderma where my entire body turned hard as stone and I laid in a bed unable to move anything but my head for 5 yrs. I went down to 70 pounds and lost tremendous muscle atrophy. I also have Hashimoto’s, Raynaud’s syndrome and Sjogren’s disease. A very close friend started making me bone broth in her kitchen and letting it cook for 24-72 hours and I started drinking 32 oz a day and also started eating more vegetables. Doctors told me I had maybe 3 yrs and I would never get out of bed or walk again. Well 3 yrs of eating good food and drinking bone broth I’m out of bed and I can now walk! I still have area that are hardened and have contractions. I also still can’t stand straight up but I CAN AT LEAST WALK. I felt like I drank cement and it hardened inside me for 5yrs. I had tremendous anxiety because I felt trapped inside my body and would give anything if I could just change my position. Worse than someone who is paralyzed because I could feel everything. Plus I was in so much pain. Just my clothing touching my skin excruciating. I have so many goals Im determined to reach! I’m going to now incorporate some of her protocol s and hopefully it helps me even more. My doctors looked like they saw a ghost when I did a surprise visit to the hospital one day. They hadn’t seen me for many yrs because I couldn’t even get to the hospital anymore because you couldn’t put me in the car. I was like a piece of wood. I would need a vehicle with a bed and then be wheeled in on a gurney. The doctors were in shock…” they all started taking notes asking me what I was eating and doing” they were in shock and couldn’t believe I wasn’t doing any medical protocol.

I'm so grateful for this episode! My mom was diagnosed with Lupus 15 years ago and I have many symptoms that are characteristics of "pre autoimune disease". I love to try different methods in my daily eating and leaving. I'm very excited to read your book! As a medical student I see this talk so necessary. I struggle many times in medicine because I feel that we are missing something very important. I want to look at the patient as a whole and to change from the inside out. I completely believe in the power of medications and surgeries but I believe that we also need to focus a lot more on the lifestyle and diet changes. Thank you so much for this! You are a inspiration Dr Terry Wahls! 💗 This sets my passion for health on fire

A healthy microbiome is key! Opportunistic bacterial overgrowth attack cells and cause disease. Overuse of antibiotics have taken its toll as well as terrible westernized diets. It's really great to hear all of the comments of people doing well. What a blessing 💖

I have an autoimmune disease Myasthenia Gravis and there is precious little information about my disease. The only answers we get from docs is we will manage your symptoms as they arise. I dont want to sit around and wait for a decline!!! I wish I could be in a study for Terry Wahls. I believe her protocol will help me improve and stay out of a wheelchair!!!! I am reading her book and implementing changes.

I was just diagnosed with an autoimmune disease last week. Im 46 and have RA and Osteoarthritis. bone on bone in my hips, been living in pain for years, because i didnt have insurance and honestly just thought i was stiff from walking alot at work etc. Fast forward to the last few years the pain became worse and i made it in to a specialist, and was diagnosed. Im actually waiting on the rhumatologist to come back with the regiment of meds ie Humira etc."poisons" that they believe will be best for me. Immediately, i decided to fix this on my own, because i KNOW the body is build to repair itself under the right circumstances. About 1hr into my research, i found your video and many questions were answered and I now know exactly how im going to attack this, and win! Thank you for this video and thanks to Dr Wahls for all her work and devotion to this research.
