I agree with everything you're saying. I think too many people try to emulate the voice of a popular song that they hear and like. The problem is that it's not their voice. They haven't "found' their own voice yet. I think the best way to find that voice is probably to write your own songs. Not everyone can, or is going to try doing that. I'm just saying that by writing your own songs, there is nothing to compare your sound with. It's original and it's you. You'll put inflections here or there as you become familiar with your song, and your voice will take on a charactor that is absolutely right for that song. The more you sing your song, the more confidence you have and singing with confidence is a big part of the whole thing.

I would encourage all to pick up a copy of Dr. Dans Voice Essentials. As an "advanced" singer (...advanced in age, that is...hahhah!) I did, and through working out with it, "spending time with my voice", as encouraged in this video, I have found a few strong points with my voice and many things that needed work and are now getting specific attention. After a just few months the result is that my comfort level, capability and enjoyment have greatly increased while vocal and emotional stress of performing has diminished.
A hardy THANK YOU to Dr.Dan!

for the first few years of my singing practice as a total beginner, several years after my first ever vocal lesson in my life, i was trying so hard to imitate, to achieve voices and techniques that my models, heros singers have, haha, and which helped me to understand what aspects of my voice and singing needed for improvement since i had zero knowledge and experience in singing --- but after those years, i don't remember when, i found myself standing alone without depending on my phantom idols and trying to develop/express my own uniqueness. i think that's because i have developed my voice and techniques to a certain level and had some my own experiences where i have learned about singing and even about life.

Which is right! I've been spending time with my voice from last February, I'm still clearing mucus upon till now but the more mucus I cleared it's the better my voice is sounding. I enjoyed spending time with my voice and being honest with yourself is key also don't downplay yourself. You got this! 👑👑👑

Hello, Dr. Dan, I totally agree with you on the practice of getting the basic melody and then practicing the song on our own, just by listening to ourselves; it has helped me a lot really. One problem I face is I'm able to produce two kinds of Head voice. One that is really shrill and clearer (It happens only in some vowels) & resonates more into the back of my head, another that is more nasal and a bit airy that happens more forward in my mouth and it clearly resonates in my nasal resonators. I have to always make a conscious effort to see which one to use. Can you please address the issue in any of your upcoming videos.

Nice to see you in the back yard or forecourt this time. I found it easier on the eye. In the studio is good for when practising an exercise
