Compressed air makes a huge difference. Would cut down on passes and how much power u need to use. U need a small compressor that can push out a constant 15psi. You will be amazed at the difference..

I recommend you change to Lightburn software, I know it's not free but well worth the upgrade. For this particular job here you could (for e.g., ) use a function it offers called 'Print and Cut Wizard' which allows you to remove your workpiece and then replace it and get it perfectly realigned for another pass. That's just one of a vast number of other advantages Lightburn offers. Also, if you're not using air assist (and note that the fan on the module isn't really much help), then clean your lens regularly with alcohol and a cotton bud because it will get fouled up with soot etc., and that really reduces the cutting ability due to the spot size increasing (it gets fuzzy due to the dirty lens). If you are planning on cutting much thick stuff you would be better using a laser module with modified beam focus (like the Sculpfun S9) which has a longer depth of focus and smaller spot size. For the money it's better than struggling with lots of minor mods to the setup you have now - and you can always swap between them anyway. I also have the Neje 30w but have the S9 on order..

I wonder if lowering the laser after a couple passes each time would make it faster? I would think by the time the laser got deeper it's losing it's focus?

So the answer is simple don't make straight 90゚ corners just do curves
