🤕 Mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) is part of a group of diseases known as mastocytosis. It's a condition caused by mast cells being too easily stimulated, reacting, releasing substances and degranulating. In this way, mast cells are ultra-reactive to stimuli that should not normally be so.

❓ But then, what are mast cells? What are the symptoms of SAMA? How is it diagnosed? What are the treatments for Mast Cell Activation Syndrome?

I’d be interested to know where the definition of MCAS belonging to a group of ‘mastocytoses’ comes from? I’ve not heard this before and MCAS is considered distinct from mastocytosis in that there is NO detectable mast cell proliferation and the CKIT mutation is only seen in some cases.
