Carson cemetery closes suddenly, leaving families desperate for answers

Laurie Perez reports from Carson, where the Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery mysteriously closed its doors three weeks ago, leaving families left in the dark as they attempt to visit their lost loved ones. With no indication as to why the doors have been locked for so long, residents are calling on state leaders to help them get some answers.

The owner of the cemetery has been diagnosed with cancer and has been in the hospital ever since. That's why it suddenly closed. However the city has already stepped in and reopened the cemetery. I was there today.

An "endowment care Has the "endowment" run out? Is there no local law stating that the community (city, county, state?) can upend the lockdown and take over the property? Horrible. My heart goes out to these grieving people.

This is the second time I’ve seen something like this happen in SoCal re: cemeteries. VERY SAD.

Giant Condos will be built on top of the cemetery and non LA natives will move in and drive up rent prices substantially thus forcing low income residents to move to Lancaster or Palmdale! 💯

This isn’t right at all. The families should have the option to have their loved ones moved, instead of the cemetery just locking the gates.

My gut says that the owners of this piece of land are trying to figure out a way to sell it off for big bucks.

It's open again. Volunteers open it from 9am to 6pm Mon-Sat

In Indiana an abandoned cemetery after going thru the courts would become the Township Trustees job to maintain. A private cemetery should have had a bond to keep up operations to pay for on going up keep ever after the grounds are full that is part of what you pay for when you buy a plot. Maybe the prosecutor need to start an investigation into where the money for upkeep went Just Saying ...

I work at a graveyard. Cops patrol it at night because of sketchy people doing drugs or drinking.

I just find it hard that they can go out of business, they sell plots all the time, unless the place is not pretty. Yes it cost for the gardners, and people to dig the holes, and maintance, so I really find it hard to believe they can go out of business, I can see running out of spots.
