I Bought a Mechanically Totaled Porsche and Fixed it with a $200 Amazon Timing Kit

We bought this Mechanically Totaled Porsche Panamera S for Scrap Value, and took it straight to the dealer because it was under a Recall that might just cover it's major engine issue, and make it worth several times what we paid...

lol I like how the dealer gave you a bunch of stuff to replace except for the part of the car that's actually broken... imagine someone getting all those repairs done that they recommended and then having the engine blow up few miles later.

I like how you solved the fuel pressure issue by starting with the easiest thing, removing the intake manifold and then worked your way up to the most sophisticated action of pouring in a gallon of gas.

I must say I watched the full 46 minute video and not one minute of it was boring. My eyes and ears were fixed to everything being said, all parts being observed, tested and removed. Very interesting. Boy, I sure do wish there would be mechanics like you guys in our area. You are wise, intelligent and with a whole lot of common sense. That is what you call integrity! I have subscribed.

It's cool how you casually do a timing job for a dual cam V8 on the grass under a tree. Awesome video!

That Porsche dealership should be ashamed of their self.

Hearing the motor run as smooth as it did was super satisfying

Timing tensioner system completely destroyed on a car with almost 200k.

Porsche dealer: You need a $2500 spark plug job. 😐

I picked up a 2010 panamera from auction with only 170k (kms) for under 10 grand. Luckily all engine updates were all done, plus I found receipts for all new brakes, new belts, rad, waterpump, etc. Hit the jackpot with this one, only 2 previous owners. Very happy with the car. Great video Sam! Great channel! 👍

Hi Sam. Big fan. My fav is the Benz R500 wagon. Great deal. I have been watching for a few years, while waiting to buy my first car, in Seattle (I'm from NYC, L.A., and Providence}. I've worked on cars since I was 16, and computers the rest of the time. Your analysis is what I enjoy most, and I just purchased my first TopScan, based on your wonderful rundown of it's features (no liability on your part). I am sure I will have a good experience.

Thanks for the knowledge, friend. I appreciate it.

FYI, my best friend from third grade in L.A. got a '72 Mustang Fastback in ~1994, on which we did a restomod with his dad. We took the engine out, sent it to the paint shop, put the engine back in and drove around for a few months before we both had to retreat to the Northeast. It's nice work if you can get it. I am suscribed. Thanks again.

This got me interested in the Panamera in general. Looks like someone took all the normal German engineering cues, but forgot to make everything hard to get to and bizarrely placed.

You seem like the only YouTuber to stick with your original format.. no big HQ purchases and all these over the top antics that others feel like they need to do because they are more "successful." Keep things the way they are, it's what got you this far, and keeps people coming back! 👍🏻

WOW

I have seen half a dozen of these V8 Models for sale, where the body and interior are good and the owners selling them for $2500-5000.
And all saying Porsche has told them the Timing System & Cams are shot and it's going to require $10K to fix it or to be " safe " just replace the engine with a low miles used one.

This Video has shown me what to look for now and hopefully find a Steal of a Deal that only needs $600-700 in parts and 20hrs of " I can easily do that job " time.

THANK YOU

for this video and addition to YouTube University !!

**** now it's time to find one .... ****

I didn't notice the length until you mentioned it. Great work. Love how you use common sense. Dealer would've had you pay $10, 000 then your engine would have grenaded.

Wouldn't it be reasonable to have mechanic and service manager expose them to the error of there bad diagnostic and repair suggestions especially at $300 hr.

Watching Samcrac fixing a Panamera in a farm while outsmarting a dealership is like watching David vs. Goliath in modern times. 😂

Hi Sam. I had the pleasure to meet you at Mancuso Auto Body a few years ago. I was impressed by what a good guy you are. Your videos are always great. Just the right blend of drama, information and positivity. Thanks

Typical dealership tactics. Sell you thousands of parts you don’t need while your engine is about to explode. My Panamera needed motor mounts and I never bothered to replace them. PITA and not worth it.

From the salvage yard straight to the dealership is insane LOL
