I was at Newport 65 and in the audience when Bobby went electric. Rumors had been circulsting that he had been rehearsing with Paul Butterfield the day before. The actual concert was great it started around sunset. About 25% of the audience booed at first. But there was more cheering than booing. By the time he got onto his second song, nesrly everyone in the audience was entranced. The people that booed gave up. I wrote a short story about it that has been published on a fiction website.

A young Joe Boyd walking in the background (with his hat and shades)
Joe Boyd: producer of Nick Drake, Fairport Convention and the first Pink Floyd single.
In his book 'White Bicycles' he describes this day in detail. The book is a page turner of so many accounts of the early days of rock en the tail end of the old blues and jazz scene.

Butterfield sitting in the background, checking out the proceedings. I read somewhere that Jerome Arnold couldn't quite nail the bass part for "Like A Rolling Stone", so Al Kooper had to play bass on that one.

If I could go back in time and do just one thing, I’d stop Dylan from going electric. His poetry just sounds better over acoustic
