Just a few days ago my Gen 2 arrived so I decided to make a video comparing and contrasting these two Barkley Microphones in a shootout style showdown!

Very interesting demonstration and analysis, David! I noticed that Gen 2 sounds a bit brighter than Gen 1, and seems to have more "space", for lack of a better term. Ribbon mics are wonderful for many applications besides wind instruments. We invested in Royer ribbon mics for our home studio a few years after they came out in 1998 and have been quite pleased with how they perform.

I’ll have to give a listen when I’m back at my desk, but from my couch the biggest obvious difference is where your gain needs to be on the Gen 2 v Gen 1.

I’m curious about what @Podcastsge would thing about the 2 mics in this application.

Great video and comparison! Between youtube's audio compression and my crappy laptop speakers I'm not sure I could differentiate much in the tonality of the microphones. Both sounds great, you sound great! That extra gain is super useful! What is the proper way to mic a harmon style mute? Just with a different mic altogether?
