Like this comment if you headed to the comments to say "that's his right hand"... until you saw the shirt and noticed the video is in mirror image and realized that it is, in fact, his left hand!

Because when I use my left hand you get the metallic sound of the mute, it just adds to the harmonica aspect of music and makes the piece so much better

Sometimes I’ll use my left hand if I have to take it off really quickly, but I usually use my right hand because you’re supposed to support the weight of the trumpet with your left hand while you only use your right hand for fingering.

Personally I take the trumpet, flip it around, look at the mute, flip it back around, face it towards me, put it on the ground and use my feet and hands to get it off then I throw my mute onto the ground along with my trumpet because dents give my trumpet character.

Lol..

Some people we are carefully on the mouthpiece position and right tension, if you move the support hand it can be sketchy for sound... While you are not supposed to put tension on the pistons hand..

I prefer using my right hand for the mute so I can keep the mouthpiece pressed in my face. If I let that pressure off, my lips deflate like a balloon - I just can't use as much pressure with my right hand. #MeatheadTipsAndTricks

It depends on how the trumpet set up if it's setup to use valves with the right-hand then yes you should use the left to take out needs but if it's set up using left hand then use right hand taking mutes out

You can pry my "removing the mute inefficiently"-ness out from my cold, dead, inefficient hands

I always take it out with my left hand

The real question is … why are you using a mute on the Carnival of Venice? 😂

I switch my left hand to the valves and use my right hand to take the mute off like a true Aristocrat

Also, tuck it under your knee so you don't have to spend the time reaching all the way to the floor (assuming you're sitting down, ofc)

sometimes that mute be EXTA in there. and besides, whenever there’s a mute change you have an 8th note rest worth of time to remove it… and sometimes there’s a horn change too 😆
