Oh yes, Ohio is bad when it comes to elections, gerrymandering aside. They passed a law that made special elections in August and then planned a special election to overturn the vote of the people in August after people voted to protection abortion in the State Constitution. People voted to legalized recreational marijuana, and the legislature tried, unsuccessfully, to alter the law that the people voted for.

My biggest gripe with the US electoral system is the winner takes all voting, which leads to a two-party system by default, because smaller parties can't just win a few seats with a few % of the votes, like in proportional voting systems.

Two party systems can't reflect the breadth of opinion in modern societies, the result is extreme polarization and an escalating destructive fight between the two parties. Add to that gerrymandering and senate seats which don't even reflect equal chunks of the population and you have an insane system that is only useful when you are a corporation and want to game it. Some would argue thats not an accident.

I think the US would be better off with like 4-5 relevant parties which then need to form coalition governments. Keep the president if you like.
On the state level there could be even more and more local parties, tackling local problems.

Add a hurdle of like 5% for parties to get any seats to prevent fragmentation, which is also a democratic pitfall.

In the UK we announced an election (mandatory every 5 years minimum but can be called by Prime Minister at any time before that) and had 1 month to plan and execute the campaigns and then the keys were handed over within hours of results. It doesn’t have to be this hard!

There is an ad campaign "Ohio is for Leaders" trying to entice successful companies to move to Ohio from thriving economies in other States. Sadly Ohio politics is cited as the primary reason relocation cannot work for these companies and their employees. Tax breaks can only go so far. If it wasn't for the Biden Chips Act selecting Ohio for new US fab facilities their batting average would be pretty low. Its a shame too because Ohio (and Illinois) SHOULD be a thriving startup scene(s) with their incredible Universities and very capable workforce. In my humble opinion what they lack is a depth of true entrepreneurial spirit and embracing risk - that is indeed a leadership void. They have the talent, the capital is available but the fire in the belly is absent. There is indeed a problem with being so Conservative you miss a changing market reality. Don't get me wrong. Ohio has great people, obscenely tremendous potential but it needs to look deeply into who and what is holding it back. It could easily be a player in the modern global economy.

Honestly, this might be unusual right now, but this is span of time is *exactly* how long campaigns should run anyway. Take all those millions being wasted over the course of a year and squeeze it all into a couple months. And then, FFS, give us a break.
