Bethena by Scott Joplin

Bethena: A Concert Waltz is one of my favorite Joplin rags. I originally learned this piece a few years ago, but since I enjoy it so much, I decided to re-learn it to perform for a YouTube video.

This rag was the first piece Joplin published after his wife Freddie's death in 1904, and its plaintive theme contrasting with more cheerful sections make it an especially striking piece and one of the most beautiful compositions Joplin wrote.
