“Some people were born to sit by a river, some - to be struck by lightnin’, some have an ear for music, some are artists, some swim, some know buttons, some... know Shakespeare, some... - are mothers, and some people... dance.” - Benjamin Button

This sounds pretty sad, but with happy side. It’s genius music.

Can imagine this piece being in an animated movie about two great friends who have been through the most challenging of what life can throw at them. Possibly even losing a loved one or each other in the process.

Brilliant performance, Scott Joplin is my favourite composer, such a great piece, so interesting to hear a 3/4 ragtime piece

I love this song and I love how it’s used in Benjamin Button. I read up on Joplin and he wrote this song for his wife who passed shortly after they were married. You can hear all of the emotion of their relationship, his feelings for her, and his sorrow after her passing. It’s a beautiful song.
Speaking of BB, the part of the song where I lose it is when he says: “…and some are mothers”.

This has long been one of my favorite Joplin compositions. I love your interpretation of this piece. I look forward to molding my own interpretation of it accordingly. Beautifully executed! Thanks so much for sharing!

I've always loved Joplin's music but I didn't hear this song until yesterday. This is so incredibly beautiful. This is my favourite piano song now. I'm currently learning it. It's perfect. It's so happy yet sad at the same time. It describes what I cannot with words. You played this perfectly!! Wonderfully done!!

You did an amazing job playing this! Most people tend to play Scott Joplin's songs too fast, but this really sounds perfect. "Bethena" and "The Entertainer" are definitely my favorite of his songs.

Excellent! I can just imagine what joy it would be to be able to play this. Very good rendition. I think you should also try variations in speeds to render different themes.

Joplin's 'Bethena' Sounds As New As It Is Old When Scott Joplin wrote "Bethena (A Concert Waltz)" in 1905, his wife of two months had just died; Bethena may well have been her nickname.

A brilliant ragtime waltz. Joplin was a genius imho.
