Your absolutely right Kingy, the umpire's have influenced games this way by changing the momentum of games and no one says anything

As a Bomber I agree with Kingy. Free up Ridley & bring in Caddy in place of the second ruck.

No one ever mentions Collingwood are so much worse without Murphy covering for darcy moore

As a hawks fan I agree with kingy still too early in the rebuild period. As long as the constantly beat the teams around and below them and be competitive against the teams at the top you have to be happy.

The Bombers were brought undone by three things in very specific order. 1) The HORRENDOUS umpiring in the 3rd quarter, that cascaded into 2) The Dons complete mental disintergration resulting from that "umpiring" which led to 3) Geelong then bullied a mentally shot side.

If he had his moment again I reckon Logan McDonald would have taken that kick earlier while there was time on the clock (24sec). He could have come off his line for more power or at least the ball may have been marked by a teammate or just thumped through for a behind to draw the game. I’m happy he didn’t though….💜

King needs to read this comment. It's not that the players or umpires don't know the rules or guidelines, that's impossible when the AFL changes the interpretations nearly every week based on one or two incidents. The real problem, and one that can't be fixed, is that the players don't know what the umpires are going to call. They're too unpredictable. The officials don't always pay/ not pay decisions correct to the interpretation. The players are confused, as are fans, becasue the umpires pay what they shouldn't pay, and don't pay what they should pay on a consistent basis. It will never be fixed.

The quality of umpiring will only stay the same or get worse. They only way to improve anything is to replace them with AI or technology. But they're humans and we're supposed to accept that umpires consistently, and always will alter games with incorrect decisions.

That's Australian Football

Big assumption that Draper actually kicked that goal

It’s not often both sides have a win from a game - ‘The loss is a gift to John Longmire’ is bang on the money. Freo played well and Fyfe had his one good game a month, but even Freo’s JL knows they were a little fortunate to get the points. The result is far more valuable to the Swans I suspect.

Respect for you Gerard always, however in your assessment of umpiring in the 3rd qtr which gave Geelong massive momentum and your subsequent critique against Essendon that "players get knocked off-kilter by this alot" .. I would ask, would you want those exact same free kicks payed against Geelongin a tight game? (in a final?). Kingy is right, the momentum swing the poor umpiring created in qtr 3 made a massive difference. As it was, Geelong already lucked out in having Dangerfield play.

Exactly right about the bombers Kingy, well said.

Umpiring maybe can only come down to a captains decision-to go upstairs to umpire to clarify a decision

Ohhhh Kingy… the Hawks aren’t doing much other than win clearances…it’s a simple game. What statistics don’t show is competitiveness and hardness. Make no mistake, this Hawks midfield is as good as any in the comp.

Like the Pies last hear, I think Longmire and the Swans often give up leads early on purpose for tactical reasons. Maybe to conserve energy, see what the oppo does etc.

At that point in the game in the 3rd quarter the free kicks were 10-4 in essendons favour. It felt like the umpires were trying to even the free kick count up, the draper situation happened and then Geelong got seven consecutive free kicks in a row (that were rubbish calls) about 3 resulting directly in goals (including the menzie rushed behind) and essendon had about 5 or 6 obvious free kicks that weren't called 3 of which were inside essendons forward fifty. Draper's chopping of the arms and two obvious holding the balls directly in front of goal on separate occasions. If the 3rd quarter was umpired with no bias, the bombers could have easily been 1 or 2 goals up at 3 quarter time instead of 3 goals down. Worst quarter of umpiring I've ever seen, legit.

It's also possible that logan McDonald knew the rules but wasn't sure what the umpire would call.

David King is the Epitome for "Let the Numbers do the talking, rather than Actual analysis"

Stunned no one talking about the Pendlebury missed tackle where he goes with the wrong arm. Clearly injured and nursing the arm. If he makes the tackle and hits a target then Collingwood probably win.
