I've always said that shulk was one of the best if not the best characters in the game, just because how he supports every play style so well.

As a main of Shulk since 3DS. I consider myself to be pretty good. I wish i could go to tournaments so i could show people how fun and how amazing he is. Props to my favorite smasher for acknowledging this c:

I main shulk and i dont remember the last time losing as him, he is really good in my opinion, he has incredible range, adaptability, and neutral game

As a Shulk main I think that Shulk has a lot of potential, more so than almost any other character in the game. As new tech in the metagame is discovered and utilized, MALLC, B reverse monado art canceling etc. I can see Shulk being a great character in the metagame, but I'd say two things hold him back from being top tier or even high tier:


1. His frame data. He may have a lot of tools with his arts to deal out a lot of damage, have a good edge guard game and even defensive game, but his moves come out so slowly in comparison to other characters that it makes it difficult for him to contest things or deal with characters that can apply pressure with projectiles and/or combo with fast hitting moves.


2. He is HARD to use. Seriously he is so difficult to play properly, because of his bad frame data and all of the tech that he can utilize to make him a great character it takes very precise spacing and coordinated control of the pace of a match, on top of hard reads, or else an entire match can go completely wrong since a lot of Shulk's moves are very punishable and he doesn't have a very strong punish game himself. Because of this I think most people won't be able to really play Shulk to his potential and he'll be held back as a result. IMO a good character is defined in part by the ease of use and accessibility that character has. It's why the hoo-haa was a thing, it's why Mario is a solid character and it's why Luigi and Sonic are top teir, they don't require extensive knowledge and tech skill to be good with them, so they are at default good characters. There will be very few amazing Shulk mains because of the effort it takes to use him and because of that I just think there's no way for him to climb above mid-high tier and top 20.

Shulk was the very 1st character I played as when I first picked up SSB for 3DS, and I immediately knew that he was something special (I REALLY FELT IT AT THE TIME), even though I think he's not exactly "God-level"

Shulk can be considered a high tier character if people use him alot more in tournaments and prove that he has more potential. 
Just like the situation with Jigglypuff back in Melee. Before the rise of Mang0 and Hungrybox, Jigglypuff was seen as a low-tier/below-average character until the Jigglypuff professionals have shown potential of the underrated character. Professionals should at least give Shulk a chance and show everyone the true power of the #Monando
