Python vs Ruby On RAILS

From a philosophy stand point Pyhton is about productivity, and Ruby On Rails is about "fun". They call it work for a reason. You don't take your Bob the builder tool set to a construction site, so you shouldn't take Ruby with you to work either. Plus Harry Potter spoke Python, what famous people speak Ruby? Yeah, didn't think so.

If I find a job that have this philosophy "Fun has no place in business" than I better switch job.

People are more productive when they're enjoying their work.

Framework vs Language - Straw man argument

chrisgarrett

Python Vs. ROR, really?

Python: A programming language; ROR: A framework.

Your video sounds like you are saying MS Windows is better than MS Office...

Dude, they are irrelevant!!! Do some proper research, please.

I was about to comment a rebuke to this video, then I noticed the 100% negative comments and 5:1 ratio of dislike to likes. The internet has spoken.

It's really painful to watch and hear this guy.

Man you really may not have the talent to be hired by a business that appreciate talent and make your work environment fun. You must really be at the bottom of the pile.

Only one way to do things in Python, and multiple things in Ruby: Bullshit.

That having only one way to do things would be better than having multiple choices: Even larger pile of bullshit

whilst work isn't always 'fun', its a sound goal to make a tool enjoyable to use. i.e. minimize frustration.. maximize elegance.. maximize the rate at which you can create

@bcart3r My argument was that Ruby has multiple ways to do everything, which means that 3 devs all working on the same project could write the same code differently and not be able to support each other's code. I have seen this in practice.

I didn't mention Frameworks. Perhaps I should just do a video on why frameworks = build fast fail fast.

Is this satire? Listening to this guy, it almost sounds satirical.

A framework is per definition a framework, not a programming language.
It is not the language that makes a good result in the most cases, it is the programmer.

When people Compare Python to Ruby they usually mean Jinja/Django vs Ruby, so maybe I didn't make that clear.

@bertobertoberto3 I have managed products in ruby and written both Ruby code, and altered gems. The screen in the background is because I put things up behind me so the image is more visually interesting.

As to Py vs RoR and Framework vs Languange... That is overly simplistic since most Py-Devs are really Py-Django devs

It's not necessarily the language that has issues. You could also see it like this: that Rails have more issues on Stack because there a tons more beginners taking it up, rather than Python.

An appropriate comparison would be Python vs Ruby or Django vs Ruby on Rails.

But Python is a language and Ruby on Rails is a web framework.

Additionally, even if ruby was designed to make programming fun, that doesn't mean it can't do other things. I prefer python myself because its more readable to me, but ruby is a good language.

@ryanthegreatt Are they not both languages people write and support code in? Is the philosophy of the programming not very different in each?

I have managed Enterprise Alexa 1000 projects in each. What experience do you have with each?
