Balancer Shaft Bushing Repair Deep Blind Hole No Access Design Can't Defeat Old Machinist Tricks

In this Video I finish up the repairs to the Kubota Block with the destroyed balancer shaft bores. Now this unavailable but less than 10 year old block can get back in the field working for its owner. Knowing what I know now this job could go a lot smoother but being a first timer I had to do a lot of figuring out to get to the end. The lack of space and the fact they apparently only do the bores in the block from one end makes this a bit tricky without the special tooling the manufacturer has. In the end everything wound up with the proper fits and clearances so it should be good to go and saved from the scrap pile. Thanks for watching!

Nicely done Brian. As usual, the impossible just takes little more time and makes the journey more interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Just takes a resourceful and talented machinist to repair most anything we can think of. Many would say it couldn't be done, We know better. : )

Pretty good Brian. Very much enjoyed this. Another reason that the HBM is the most versatile machine in the shop. -Doozer

More that one way to skin a cat... I bet you have a few more tricks up your sleeve. They will be good for future videos.
Great set of videos. I watched them twice and each time I learn a little. Thanks

I-had to repair my 276 john deere balancer shafts a few years ago, one of the bushings had spun out, the shop in Somerset didn’t wont to mess with it so i had to do the job myself, i made a sleeve to-hold the bushing and tig welded it in, replaced all 6 while at it, Worst part-was I didn’t have all-the special tools to do the job, made some, the staker to stake the bushing and the puller pusher, to remove the old ones and press-in the new ones, local JD dealer let me use some of their special tools .

Well done ! I can imagine the satisfaction you feel having solved this puzzle with your mind, and being able to DO the work, having the tooling, etc. In one word this is called: Capability. The Owner's Manual says it this way: Proverbs 22:29.
I face a similar puzzle which is why i stumbled into your video. I'd love to get your opinion on my challenge: hydraulic pump, shaft broke off due to unsupported pulley wobble, so all the energy concentrated where the shaft enters the pump. I have about 1/4" of shaft sticking out of the pump housing. Anyway, I could learn a lot from you; thank you for sharing with us. "Goodintight" German, I presume. LoL

Some jobs are really tough to beat into submission ! 'Seems that a lot of design engineers go out of their way to make products difficult to repair on purpose - which tend to get tossed, or have to go to 'dealer only' for repairs, ( if possible ? ? ? ) Obsolescence is planned in a lot of manufacturing, which is an absolute pity - I watched thousands of tons of FINE MACHINERY go to the scrapyards back in the late '60's . . . mostly due to CNC taking over ! Economics has pushed this nonsense into oblivion !
'Really glad to see that you got this one straightened out . . . way to go !
