TEST! Comparing Stretch Between Mono and Braid? | Pole Position Mainlines

We all know braided mainlines have significantly less stretch compared to mono, but just how much less? Join CARPology's Joe Wooltorton as he heads to his local football pitch to test a variety of carp fishing mainlines and see precisely how they differ in terms of stretch.

Great test Joe, i would like to see a similar test with braid and mono casting a bare lead and hitting the clip to see the difference on a field.

Good test joe, , actually very interesting to see how much stretch to indication it would be!!
I think it tells me if I'm on a venue which allows braid, I would probably use it for better bite indication!👍

22 years ago I was done fishing on a reservoir in northern France. My rubber boat was irreparable, but my furthest rig was still about 350 > meters out. So I had to real the 240 grammer in from the shore and it got stuck after a few turns of the reel...

I had to walk over 30 meters into the forrest behind me to make the 0.45mm. line snap. Bought braid the next week.

Awesome video, very insightful. Thanks!

When a fish is hooked and played, I believe we tend to apply 3-4lbs of pressure. Incongruously, we apply more pressure with lower test curves, presumably because of the cushioning effect of the blank!

Very interesting. Currently thinking about transitioning to braid, and this is very useful. Thank you!

I did my own test.
Because I was wondering what the monofilament line stretch was like.
The test was carried out with a rod on the rodpod.
The drag was set on 1.5 lb resistance.
The mainline was 15lb NGT camo.
The test shows 5 % stretching on the mono.
I was expected to be more.

Cheers joe brilliant not seen this done before 👍

Hi Joe, I would love to see a comparison between braid and flurocarbon. Is there a big difference between fluro and mono in terms of stretch? Also, I would love to see strength tests between 12lbs mono's and 20 lbs mono's. The more manufacturers you can test, the better!

Just ordered some braid from temu. Cheaper than my mono😂

would rather use braid over mono in all situations

My question to u is. Once you use the mono at 6yards it has been stretched 4 to5 foot. Then u are using the same line that has been stretched 4 to 5 feet again at 18 yards . Not fair test. It would have to be done with new spool of mono at every line. 6yard 18 yard half way etc. Just due to the stretch of mono.

I moved over to braid at the start of the year mainly because I'm fishing a really weedy venue. At the beginning I lost a few fish because I wasn't used to having no stretch but once I did it's brilliant it cuts through weed like butter you feel everything through the braid. You can control fish easier imo braid is far superior to mono

Why not do the test using a 4oz lead hitting the clip and measure the distance achieved with each line. This will show you how far you are away from your from bait spoded on a broad line and the casting hook bait on mono?

You should of used digital scales to tell you how much lbs it takes👍

Am I wrong or does the test just show how much stretch u get when playing a fish? To move that dumbell u need a lot more force than to pull some line from a spool with lose drag or even just to move up a little bobbin. So stretch should be a lot less in that case.

Before i start this was me trying to be as positive as i can about this video . From the nonsense about using lines from the same manufacturers for "consistency" rather than an advert for a line that isn't widely used . The test wasn't just unscientific it was totally pointless, you could not have put together a worse test . The only takeaway is mono stretches more than braid ... great

Do same test pulling a Quiver Tip round or pulling line out of a pike drop arm clip to get an actual fishing situation NOT a heavy dumbell you would never pull that much force in showing a bite.

I'm in Australia, and mono isn't used here by 95% of people as their mainline. It's interesting to see it is still popular over there.

Don't fall for the fluoro gimmick. Look up videos on Mono vs. Fluoro. Mono comes out on top in almost every test.

I used to also use fluoro, but there's no real benefits over mono. It's not more "invisible" than similar lb mono.

I wonder if it would be possible to make a mainline that is a hybrid between both mono and braid? Braid inner core for the none stretch and feel but a mono outer coating that takes on water and gets around a braid ban
