Signal Generators are in the title, but not mentioned in the video. A signal generator just generates pure sine waves. With the exception of audio signal generators for Hi-Fi work they are typically designed to go up to a lot higher frequencies than a function generator can reach, and are used as RF sources for radio design/repair/testing. eBay has hobbyist sig gens that work up to 6 GHz for $70 or so.

To be honest, I have never used an FG in either radio transmission or reception. Some FGs have an extra input that allow you to amplitude/frequency modulate the signals you are generating, but unless you have a REALLY expensive FG you are limited to carrier signals in the AM band (around 1Mhz). PWM is generally not used in radio although it's technically possible. I plan on doing some radio tutorials but they would be several months out as I've gotta cover more basic material first.
