In the Netherlands virologist and doctors argue against wearing masks masks as it gives a false feeling of protection and people don’t keep social distance anymore while that is much more important than wearing a mask. Most people don’t wear masks because of that. We only use masks in places where social distance is almost impossible like public transport.

I'd like to point out that the key part is masks that leaks from the sides like cloth masks and surgucal masks. Those are not good if you are around an infected person.
N95 that fits tightly on the face is absolutely safe and stops the spread. Also, respirator masks are great if you are around an infected person but because they have exhaling filters its not for infected people because they can breathe out the virus into the air..

Michael Osterholm clearly stated that masks do “largely nothing, ” on the Joe Rogan podcast. He also stated “stopping the spread of a pandemic is like trying to stop the wind.” This has become political and it’s a shame. All the mask does is give low propensity voters peace of mind.

I can hear him using his words carefully about the topic as he tip toes around the direct question with an indirect perspective/answer of what he thinks about masks. Yes, social distancing, masks, and washing hands are all key components of not contracting Covid. Yet masks can help with spread of water droplets when speaking. Six feet is better than no feet. Being a germaphone has helped normalize and validate my own hygienic practices. Hopefully the world can al practice this perspective and change it.

Lets get this straight, Osterholm says he does not want to be political.He wants decisions based on science. He admits masks improve the situation of transmission and protection but says they're not the answer, stand alone . He never volunteers that N95 masks are infinitely better at protection than the surgical mask he describes as being able to leak vapor, so he has all of a sudden become political. Why would a doctor not point out the significant differences as to the protective abilities of masks, unless he was covering for an administration that refused to stockpile N95 masks in January? ask him the question . How much better off would society be if everyone had a N95 mask or two, for daily use ?
