Become a commercial pilot in 2021? Commercial pilots are pilots who don't work at airlines. Some of these pilots work for private companies, but they usually work on a per-project basis and don't follow a schedule, unlike airline pilots. Let's see if being a commercial pilot is right for you:

What is the average salary of a commercial pilot?
What is the job market like for commercial pilots? Would it be hard for you to get a job?
Would this occupation be compatible with your personality and interests?
What kind of education do you need to become a commercial pilot?
What will happen to commercial pilots ten years from now?
Let's get started.

If you're not rich and you can't get student loans then do a 4 year enlistment in the military and then apply to a four year college that has a flight training program. Use the Post 9/11 G.I. bill and you'll get 27k per year to cover the cost of classes and the flight training cost. If the college uses the Yellow Ribbon program that number could, at most, double up to about 53k a year. The amount a college will match for the G.I. bill through the Yellow Ribbon program depends on the college. If you can't get an 84k loan to do the ATP program as described at 2:06 then the military/college is the best way to go.

One would think with the current pilot shortage and upcoming mass pilot retirements in the next 10 years. The government would offer more grants and scholarship to train more pilots.

I would become a pilot tomorrow if i could afford the flight school, but with 3 kids and a mortgage, there's no way i can afford it. I've been looking for airlines willing to send me through school to work for them, but there's none I've found yet. Someday, if it's met to be, it will work out for me.
