The MacBook You SHOULD BUY!!!

Picking between the new M3 MacBooks can be extremely difficult with all of the new options and specs, but I think I found the most well balanced model for most users that should be great for general computing for years to come, have great battery life, and powerful enough to handle demanding tasks.

I had a 16” M1 Max. Great machine. Didn’t like the size. Traded it for the 14” M3 Pro MBP 12/18/18 1 TB (the $2500 variant). Space Black of course. Love it and completely agree with Greg’s astute and insightful analysis.

I agree with you, but I have to stress the words you said towards the end: "... if you buy brand new". I you can't afford the M3 Pro MBP, don't go for the regular M3 MBP, but get a refurbished or used M1 Pro/M2 Pro MBP. Or even do this by default, you save real money and help the environment. You get all the benefits of the M3 Pro MBP, just a little less crazy performance, but it's still crazy.

If you really do a lot of 3D rendering, the M3 Pro might make sense, or the M1 Max/M2 Max, as they only get even more graphics power compared to the M1 Pro/M2 Pro (different for the M3 lineup where the M3 Max gets quite a bit more CPU power as well).

I got a 14" M3 Max MBP (base model) from my employer, coming from a 16" i9 MBP. And it's overkill! But if you push it (I do), the fans will speed up. Now I always run it in low power mode, it's dead quiet now and still crazy fast! But I wouldn't recommend it to most people over an M3 Pro, it's so much more expensive. Only go for it if you know that you're really pushing the CPU and/or GPU extra hard on a regular basis in a way that it pays off,  and that's not easy to do.

The beats everything negative to the 11-core M3 Pro is the reduction in performance cores make it slower than an 8-core M1 Pro in real terms for running DAW software or anything else where the number of efficiency cores mean nothing. They’ve deliberately removed performance cores from the Pro chips to make the Max versions more appealing.

I already got M3 Pro base model -14 inch, now be brutally honest, will i be missing out on a lot given that my use is not heavy rendering and stuff like that? My use is light editing and browsing with many tabs open, working with google suit, watching you tube etc.

I'm probably going to go for the refurbished M2 Pro MacBook Pro 14 Base. It seems to be a way better deal with a much more price/performance ratio.

"Most people" don't need a Macbook Pro. an Air is ok making the 14 inch a niche option. If you need power you also need screens.

Well, I went ahead and purchased the $1999.00 M3 Pro MBP, but spec’d it up with 1Tb SSD for $200 more. We have two user log on so, more photos, more files.

Quick update: I returned my M2 15” 16/512 because Best Buy has the 13” M2 24GB/1TB on sale for $1, 399 BRAND NEW!!

I want to keep my Mac for a long time, and as such the 6E wifi seems essential.

I recently got the m3pro Pro after 6 months with a 512/8gb m2 air.. needed that extra ram! Found a killer deal on the Pro after xmas.. $1600.. and couldn't pass it up! The ram is perfect for me and the processor is admittedly overkill, but it makes it feel like a machine that I can keep for years to come. Would have kept the air if I'd gone for 16gb ram but I didn't.. Long story as far as pricing goes when I bought it. Love the M3pro Pro though! would definitely recommend and honestly I probably would havew bought one even if I hadn't found the deal that I did.

Why at Best Buy is the 13 inch m2 MacBook air with 512 gb $1, 524 and the 14inch m3 MacBook pro with 512gb $1, 579.
I wanted the air because it’s smaller and thinner, but for about $60 more dollars, I could just get the pro.
