You get 9 minifigs with the battle bus for 100 bucks but only 11 with Jabba's Barge for $500!? Which is nothing since I'd be shelling out $650 CAD for it... even with Luke's light saber as a GWP that is beyond steep.

I agree with most of your takes, but I think the Mario/Yoshi set is near perfection. I like the fact you can see the controls from the back, and I especially like the 2D figure.

I can understand the gift-with-purchase Lego has been doing for May the 4th every year because, for the most part, they have been the sorts of builds (mini dioramas, a super-obscure vehicle, etc) that might have niche interest but wouldn't sell well. But I don't get making the light sabers a gift with purchase, especially when paired with such a massive main set. They have to realize that not everybody is able (or willing) to pay $500 for a single set (frankly, even the $250 that is the minimum for a UCS set now is pushing it). And lightsabers are so iconic to the setting, and based on that piece count, would be no brainers to put on retail shelves. Just add a minifig for the character the saber in question belongs to, you would think they would fly off the shelves. It might be a slightly harder sell, but maybe also add a line of buildable blasters.

I learned from your inspection of the back of the Mario set that it has an interactive barcode! love to see those on these sets! I wonder if it's for audio again like the NES one?
