Mavic Mini, Mini 2, Mavic Air remote charging Android phone ISSUE SOLVED!

In this video I show an easy to do mod to prevent your Android phone from draining your DJI remote.
If you decide to do this, make sure to test it thoroughly before flying and NOTE that even if the data connection between the remote and the phone would break during flight or the App would crash, YOU STILL HAVE CONTROL over the drone with the controller sticks.
For those who have no time to watch the vid 😊:
Just connect a silicon diode in series in the + wire from the remote to the phone!
I hope you find it useful. ENJOY!

I just did this to one of the cables I have for my mini 1. Worked out perfectly!! I did a 19 min flight and the remote didn't even lose 1 light of battery life. The phone temperature stayed much cooler also. Life saver dude!! ♥️

I just purchased a mavic mini and had a heart attack when I saw how fast the remote control battery drained charging my Samsung S9. Thank you Zolly for this video. I obtained diode 1N4004 from a local electronics store (micro center) for $1.99 and followed your instructions. Worked 100% - now the remote control no longer charges my Samsung S9.

Tried this on my Mavic Mini Remote as I was tired of the battery dying so often. It worked! The phone (Galaxy S10) doesn't take charge at all now but all other connections worked as they should. As a note on my USB-C wire, the red cable was on the opposite side, which meant I had to cut away more rubber than I'd hoped, but nothing that heatshrink won't fix.

Connected to a Galaxy S20 the Mavic Mini RC is empty after about 30 Minutes. With your method it doesnt even loose one of the 4 lights after half an hour. Excellent Tip, Many Thanks!

This is great! If nothing else, I learned that cutting and super-gluing heat shrink works. This is huge. Thanks!

Hey dude, you're better than all the Dji engineers combined. I have been annoyed with this phenomenon for two years now, I already wanted to buy an iphone for the drone. Huge applause for you!

Ultimate hack! Works flawlessly, along with the Litchi app, O.E. Mavic Mini in 2024!

it also worked for another drone brand with android phone (Xiaomi POCO)... same problem, same fix, beware charge your phone to last the entire session as the diode prevent "back charging" the phone ... in general shunting different batteries is a bad idea ... thank you for the tip !

Such a simple fix... I think you are a genius man..

Pretty hilarious how android users have to do this when Apple users can just go to settings and turn off charging 😂😂

Thank you very much! I followed your instructions and that perfectly works! The diode was only 0.07€ 🤣, ridiculous low price for such a high value in operating the drone.

Thats works! I've Got Huawei Mate 8 and after installing a diode I have 1.8 mA

Thanks for this tip. I tried it on my Asus Zenfone 5 charged to about 60% and DJI Mavic Mini 1 with 75% battery. I was surprised that this solution with diode did not reduce current near zero, but only to 0.19 Amps. Anyway it is better than straight connection which takes 0.50 Amps. I tried reverse diode or 1K resistor, but none of those alternatives worked (no communication with DJI app).
Note: diode is 1n4148 from my old supplies. I may try a different diode later.

How many individual cables are inside the Mavic cable?? I'm asking because I ordered a new Mavic cable which is a round one AND it has 4 individual cables inside. Red Black Green White. Should I weld the diode to the red cable as well??

Great stuff right there. well, I have a great interest in the DIY projects when it comes to electronics, even though I do not have much knowledge. I think I will learn a thing or two. thumbs up

I just bought a used, mint Mini 1. At the first test flight the controller showed 4 lights in the beginning but probably wasn't fully charged. After 2 of the 3 flight batteries the controller battery was empty with the controller beeping. I thought WTF? And later suspected the phone charging to be the problem.
It's a real shame that you can inhibit an iPhone from charging in software/os but not an Android phone.
Now when I fully charge the controller and phone before flying, the controller probably will last long enough for 3 batteries, but I still find that a really annoing deficiancy. What if the controller battery gets older or what if you forget to charge it to 100%? Also the controller battery will age faster, I guess.
I can solder but am not happy for having to buy another cable (don't want to mod the original one) and having to invest time, but yeah at least there's a solution. I think DJI should produce such cables and sell them at a reasonable price to owners, as it's essentially just a bugfix for a design mistake.
I take it the diode lowers the voltage by about 0.7 volts, so everything still works, but it's not a voltage the phone wants to charge from. Thanks a lot for finding this improvement hack! And the shrink-tube cut method is useful too!

Maybe they've change the set up because I don't have this problem. The battery in the controller doesn't drain and I don't have to charge it every time I got out maybe top up every third time I have to fully recharger all three batteries !?!?!

Hey Zolly, awesome video. Just a quick question, was there any specific reason you ripped the iphone lightning cable in the beginning of the video (since you kept mentioning about Android phones and USB-C cables? Did I miss anything? I thought DJI GO4 app, had a fix to disable iphones not to charge, while using. Any hints on those?

You've done it again... I won't do this modification but if I could buy a cable that had it done I would.

Hi Sir! I'm from Philippines i tried this on my Mavic Mini Micro USB Cable. I follow all the instructions but it didn't work from my end! It has 4 wires, black, white, green & red.
