Paulie gets dunked on a lot by the community but I feel like he understood and accepted the mafia life better than almost anyone on the show. So many characters wanted to have it both ways: they wanted to be happily married, but also wanted to bang other girls; they wanted kids, but they wanted the freedom to do whatever they want; they criticized others for being lazy freeloaders, yet never did an honest day's work in their life.

Paulie didn't tell himself any lies. He didn't try to live a double life. He knew what he signed up and had no illusions, and I think that's a big part of how he survived until the end of the series despite being in some pretty dangerous situations.

Always come back to this scene. Paulie's best moment on the show for me.

Christopher: Young enough to hold on to slim hope.
Paulie: old enough to know better

It's already been a year since we lost you, Tony. I hope you're being like a general in the big bing in the sky.

You empathize with Chrissy in this scene, but at the same time you can see the fatal flaw of his character. He always feels entitled and expects things being handled to him. He asks himself when something good is gonna happen to him, not when he is gonna do something good.

Nihilism or Stoicism? I guess it depends on your outlook of life at the time.
