DON'T RUSH OUT JUST YET TO GET NEW BRAKES. The sensor in the brake pad is poorly designed.

This doesn’t surprise me one bit. I just serviced the brakes on a friends 2019 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 (77k miles). New pads, rotors, and wear sensors from GM. Did all the necessary steps for the truck to be in service mode, reset the pad life, etc. After driving the truck 2 miles, it said “brake system failure”, “service ESC“, “pre-collision system disabled”, “vehicle speed limit reduced to 43 mph“, and the check engine light was on. Lucky for me. I had a dealer level, scan tool. I was able to clear the codes, and reset the ABS system. All I did was a pad slap, and new rotors, and this simple repair disabled the vehicle. I feel sorry for any consumer who wants to do their own vehicle repairs. This is getting out of hand!

At 35, 000 Mile my 2021 Trail Boss started saying service brake monitor. A week before that it said I had 75% of pad life left. This is such a pain in the butt! The dealers will tell you you need all new brakes and GM WILL NOT WARRENTY them after 7500 miles!!! When I looked at the pads I had 7 to 8 mm of pad life left!!!! Very poor job with the braking system design GM! GM does not stand behind their faulty garbage but the dealers are all willing to fix GM's poor designs at your expense of 175 dollars per hour and the high price of all new parts! STOP it GM, Literally!

I’m going through this currently on a 2019 sierra. I bought it used with 22k miles on it 3 months ago. The gmc dealer literally told me i had 4 rusted calipers and my pads were worn to nothing causing the monitor alert. Such garbage. Went somewhere else for a second opinion. Still have 5mm on back and 7mm on front. Gonna replace rear pads and get a new monitor and hope this resolves the issue. I don’t feel like i can trust anyone. The dealership also reset my oil life to 100%

So I have a 2019 GMC Sierra and drove 78, 000 miles before my brake monitoring service showed that the front brakes were at 20%. The back brakes at the time were somewhere around 65% according to the brake service monitor. Took it in to have the front brake pads replaced and was told they were still at 8 mm and the sensors needed to be reprogrammed. Paid $60 to have that done, only to find out that when I got the truck back both the front and rear brake monitors were showing 100%. When I talked to one service advisor he basically told me that they were reset, and that the break monitor essentially adjusts itself downward based on time and mileage. So I don't know if I just paid $60 for someone literally to hit a button and reset my monitors to 100%, which is obviously way wrong since I have 80, 000 miles on the truck, or if there really are sensors that were reprogrammed, and if so why the hell would they show 100%?
