Whatever Chevy did to their brakes after 2018, they royally screwed them up. My truck brakes failed at 39000 kms. Wouldnt warranty, quoted me 2400 to do the brakes so I did them myself with no repair mode available on my 2020 u til a recent firmware update. Truck went into limp mode, thousands to repair, took a month to get warranty.

Then recently my fronts went and I was able to somehow clear the codes manually after doing them without the repair mode by messing with the battery. Unplug and wait 48 hours. Was a nightmare.

Then some idiot ripped my pad wear sensor and half of my harness right off the truck in some sort of vandalism. What a nightmare.

So i finally tracked down all the parts I needed and watched this video along with using a new topdon bt scan tool.

This video saved my butt. Thanks a bunch. So many limp modes and code nightmares. Thousands of dollar in headaches.

So, thank you for the step by step video. Engine running was probably a key step too that many were messing up after the update.

Ps, my truck would not enter brake repair mode until the last firmware update. For years there was no way to manually enter brake service mode.

Tried it this time after watching your video and it worked first try.

Bam! Worth a case a beer to ya for posting this.

Exceptional explanation!!! Well done. Not one single wasted word. 😊 and no annoying music shocking attempting to grab the viewers attention. Lol

Method worked great. EPB released like you said. No different than older model brake pad changes. Thanks!

I was searching for this video little more than two month ago. After replacing front brakes and rotors, got limp mode, check engine light, service brake system message, and no brake booster.Deleted check codes with Launch, one by one, limp mode and messages gone itself, but still have check popping up every week or two since..Now I'm not scary to replace rear ones.Thank you very much.
P.C. I'm not greedy person, but really cannot agree with price for brake service at local dealer, specially if I did this "simple" job since I bought my first car 30 years ago. Thanks again for shearing your experience.

Why does everything have to be electronic. Keep it the way it was

Great video! I broke a seal trying to turn the piston in not realizing I had to put it in service mode. Found this video and it was a game changer.

Same problem here. Almost 84, 000 miles. Driver side inside rear pad almost gone, all the rest look fine. Thanks for the instructions for disengaging the electronic parking brake… worked like a charm. 2019 GMC Sierra 1500.

Thank you! I went out at lunch and tried to set the brake maintenance mode and it worked! 2017 GMC Acadia Denali. Now to go home and do the rear breaks.

Thank you for the video, it was very helpful, I saw the same issue with the inside pads & also noticed not all the clips were installed & the inside clips had spring tabs broken off. Fitting the new pads, they needed some grinding on the ends to make them fit and give the a little “float”.

Just left the dealership and they said I would be needing new rear brakes. I asked if I could do them myself on a 2021 Silverado they said not with out a scan tool. I’m going to give this a try instead of paying $540 for rear brakes. They also said the inner pads were wearing faster than the outside pads.

worked like a charm...had a bunch of dash lights come on after though. Used OBDII scanner to clear and didn't work at first...then messed with some settings and managed to clear the code with ignition on but engine off mode. Now running like normal again

I must be lucky. 21 Silverado with 71, 000km. Zero brake issues to speak of.. but my friend did warn me about this “brake service mode” you have to put the truck in. His truck went into limp mode and he said the dealer charged him $400 to fix it

Awesome video man
All the in and outs for anyone with a Silverado no matter the engine the 2.7l, 3.0l the 5.3l & 6.2l easy job without the dealer telling you that $800 is owed for a brake job 😅

15000 miles on my 2020 Silverado RST inside pads worn down to 3mm needles to say I will be doing a brake job tomorrow. Thank you for your input..

Just had my winter tires put on at the dealer and I was told that I needed a complete brake job...I found it very hard to believe it since I only have 35, 000 Km on the truck....but after watching several videos on YT, it appears that the brakes are due for replacement for most people with roughly the same amount of mileage...even my sensor says I've got 82% brake pad life left... shocking!
Great vid! Thanks for the brake service mode tip
