You may have heard that SteamOS is an immutable Linux distro. But what does it actually mean in practice?

you could kinda say android is an immutable linux distro too, since its built on the linux kernel and has its root filesystem mounted as readonly

Tbf Valve supported and boost Linux back in the day, they made a huge contribution to getting Linux develop in much faster phase.

1) NixOS mentioned
2) NixOS doesn't call itself immutable, because it's misleading and incorrect
3) It's more of a container approach than being truly immutable

Vanilla is another such distro but in my experience for home computing they’re more bothersome than they’re worth.

NixOS gang!
I should however mention NixOS is FHS challenged, might take some time getting used to (it's very epic)

I can't call it a linux distro if it's available only on the Steam deck(officially )Its just a linux based operating system. If i can install this on my laptop its a distro

Thank you for this video it made me understand more about immutability in filesystems. I subscribed to your channel to watch more of your content since I'm an intermediate in Linux. Just a side note: I love that your captions are spelled accurately and match what you are saying. Just a grammar tip: _may_ is a modal verb so it should be followed by a base verb, so "it may seems" should be "it may seem."

Alpine also has an immutable mode. Any system-related changes require a specific command to commit to the drive. Your home dir is read-write, giving you the best of both worlds.
