As an Android enthusiast, I can say that image-based updates require an option to download the full image because sometimes partial images can cause issues

Imagine if Vanilla OS was based on NixOS. 110% Reproducibility.

With Fedora silverblue you don't need sudo either as long as your not changing the live system.

Nicco trying to pronounce English words is the cutest thing. English isn't my first language either, it's so confusing.

Looks pretty awesome, every distro seems to be trying to go in this direction.
no sudo rm -rf / :(

Vanilla OS is the most exciting Linux distro to track right now, and it is the future that we are going into. Amazing stuff <3

You just convinced me to finally try VanillaOS.
Hopefully it will mark the end of my distro hopping.

The problem with image-based distributions, and really any distribution that packages binaries, is that it inherently limits customizability. Gentoo offers customization at the source level, and yet still manages to offer better reproducibility than any traditional binary-packaged distribution. Just copy over some configuration files and rebuild the system, and you'll end up with exactly the same configuration.

If you're an experienced user and you have either enough patience or a good CPU and enough RAM, there's literally no better option for customizability. Use Gentoo because why not?

You nailed the pronunciation of recipe on your final attempt there. The one that ends with a long e.

oh wow. my man's got the support flag in the background now. So it's not just meaningless words on twitter where probably no one would see it.

nice.

Sounds like Silverblue (OSTree) but user friendlier?

Would this preclude installing other DEs or WMs to try?
Can the default umask still be altered or is there some aspect of this that makes it irrelevant in such as system?
I can see the advantages of this, but to what extent would the user cede control of the system to the distro maintainers?
Isn't being able to change one's system to work as desired one of the main points of Linux?

This goes into that and that goes under this and then all go on top of this, my head is spinning :)

I just installed Vanilla OS today on my ThinkPad, its been nice, lets see if not having sudo be okay or frustrating when I upgrade from the current version to v2

nico - i like albion! thank you for drawing attention to it here in your video. I just wish we could develop that installer tool, to be cross portable across distros. For those shared parts common to other distros. For example there might be many bits which are indeed unique to vanilla OS. however the general idea of developing an OpenAPI spec for the JSON config file (or in YAML format, same difference). That we can have something more wider amongst the industry. To let users do configs.

Hey @Nicco, I would very much prefer if you didn't use the soundboard videoclips like at 4:20 or at 8:03. They are noise and are simply unneeded. They do not enhance the video in any way and break the flow.

I'm waiting for a video about the new icons and the design in general
