Too often, our society distorts alcohol, nutrition about being “good for you” or even worse we celebrate with alcohol and food so children start to see it as a reward when it isn’t.

THATS SO TRUE ABOUT EVERYTHING! Whenever I would ask my mom a question, she ALWAYS tried to explain it to me. Never told me I was too young, or wouldn’t understand, she gave me a chance first and I could always ask follow up questions. Now I’m a critical thinker who asks questions whenever dubious information is presented, instead of just accepting it as fact. Where did the info come from? Who’s saying it? What are their sources? How big is the claim? Am I being scammed, lied too, etc… give your child the gift of curiosity like my mother did, and we will thrive.

Dr Amen is so right about alcohol.
Actually, it's the most damaging drug in the world.

I'm a GP in Belgium. Alcohol is very pervasive here. When I tell people I don't drink alcohol because it's poisonous, they often react by telling me "not really, though, ha, ha, ha, have a glass with us! ".... I tell them " Yes, actually, really!" People are so casual about their teens "experimenting" that I sometimes doubt myself.

As a recovering addict who almost lost my life because of drugs and alcohol and the lies about it…I could not agree more!

Absolutely. My family felt if I was old enough to ask, I was old enough for a real answer. They always said I could do substances as long as I did it at home where I was safe. Drinking isn't appealing at all.
I rely on Cannabis for my multiple disabilities. It's the only thing that keeps me from screaming from pain 24/7

Thank you Dr. Amen. I chose not to drink or do drugs ions ago. It's the best thing I ever did to eliminate hopelessness, anxiety, and depression. Please keep soreading this message. You're right. Alcoholics are destroying their brain. In the end their brain stops working if they don't intervene. What are the chances of recovery and brain repair, Dr. Amen, in the later stages of alcoholism?

My daughter is being taught how to use marijuana and when to use alcohol. Moderation is key ❤️💯

I'm glad to hear a medical professional say these things. Everyone thinks it's ok to use all the time, sometimes every hour. Problem is as you know that people are spraying it with glue or hair spray and other things.

That is from the vape cartridge. They have added chemicals that make them burn. Not regular weed.!!

The worst thing I've ever seen anyone do while on marijuana was eat a whole big bag of peanut M&M's and laugh so hard they blew one out their nose...

Two issues: the pressures society places on us all, that society says is OK to use "socially acceptable drugs".
And society's refusal to change because we're a capitalist driven society.

Hey Doc. I started smoking pot and drinking alcohol at age 14 and by the time I was 15 I was injecting methamphetamine. I have no idea how I have any brain cells left as an adult. Of course my mother and father tried to scare me into not doing drugs, but it never worked. It actually made me want to do it more because I am a natural rebel. I have 2 kids of my own now and the plan is to be honest with them about the horrors of drug addiction, maybe tell a few of my horror stories but at the same time, I won't restrict their freedom like my mother did. If my kids have good grades, are respectful and involved in sports or some physical activity, I won't put my kids in rehab if I catch them smoking pot on the weekend with their friends, but I definitely won't encourage it. How do you reccomend we keep kids off of drugs?
