The Circle of Life Continues. Mufasa: The Lion King is a live-action prequel that follows Mufasa's rise to royalty as king of the Pride Lands. The prequel will also tell the origin story of Mufasa and his brother Taka — who later becomes known as the villain Scar.

In the Pride Lands, baby Mufasa is then swept away in a flood, which could be the potential birth of his orphan story and how he ends up in the ruthless world alone.

In The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, Simba and Nala have a daughter named Kiara. Kiara is adventurous and curious, and she often wanders off into the Pride Lands. One day, Kiara meets a young lion named Kovu, who is the son of Zira - a banished lioness. Zira is angry at Simba for exiling her and her family, and she wants revenge. Kovu and Kiara fall in love, but they are forbidden to be together. As Kiara grows older, she realizes that she must fight for what she believes in. She decides to challenge her father's decision to banish Kovu, and she succeeds in convincing him to let Kovu back into the Pride Lands. Kiara and Kovu get married and start a new generation of lions in the Pride Lands.

The sequel will be an original story, and not a remake of The Lion King II: Simba's Pride, the 1998 direct-to-video sequel to the original film, from what can be inferred from the Deadline article.
This will be either the fifth sequel to a live-action Disney remake, following 102 Dalmatians, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, sequel to The Jungle Book, sequel to Aladdin and sequel to Mulan, which may come before or after this.

I really want a Scar and Mufasa prequel which shows the foundations of Scar’s hatred when they were kids and based off the Tale of Two Brothers, I would also love to see Ahadi in a sort of (Peter Jackson’s) Denethor position.

I don't understand why they couldn't make this a 2d animated film and not a live action one. This is a pretty cool to the original Lion King movie that came out in the 90s and it was animated so how come it's pretty cool can't be too?

The lion king is my favorite movie and am really excited I loved both the animated and real life action movie. Personally I loved the original 1994 version.
Would love to see a backstory to Scars hatred for Mufasa. Instead of him being orphaned. I would also love to see Zira love for Scar in the film so that the movies can all tie in. But that’s my personal opinions. I can’t wait for the movie regardless.

My favourite is still the animated version of the lion king, & 2 & 3 I still think a film needs to be done on why scar & mufasar growing up & why did scar hate his brother? unless that's the poison talking that made him crazy I've not watched the new version of lion king the animated versions are the best & the songs, it wouldn't be easy to get a real lion to talk or sing but in animation it's so much fun. & the lion guard songs to some are my favourite.
