In the mid 1990’s, Bill Gates held over 25% of Microsoft’s stock; in 2020, things have changed, he owns around 1% and has limited input. However, despite Bill Gates transitioning into more of an advisor, Microsoft has remained a dominant force in the tech industry. Its current CEO, Satya Nadella, has made many strategic moves and he now describes Microsoft as a diverse group of businesses with linkages. But what are these linkages?

This video will go through Microsoft’s transformation and discuss each major business segment.

Let us know in the comments what you think is Microsoft’s most important segment.

MS Teams is not only available for businesses, it is freely available for anyone. Specific features of the Teams app require specific Business license subscription, but that doesn't mean the core application with it's main features is not available for everyone.

JPM did a study on tech companies this year (2020), ranking them in many different categories. The only takeaway I got from the 100 page document was that MSFT was leading most categories.

It is amazing to see what Microsoft has accomplished since the days of Windows 3.1. I can't think of too many companies with a larger list of accomplishments.

Microsoft seems to be going more toward b2b then b2c where it’s tough to turn into a hip consumer product company. B2B is more into value & functionality where Microsoft is more suited for.
