Gold Hot Spots of Australia - Yandoit, Victoria

Yandoit is located near Daylesford, about an hour and 40 minutes drive from Melbourne and is today a scattering of small homes in Central Victoria’s Golden Triangle region.

Ballarat and Bendigo are both well known for their rich gold history while many prospectors these days have probably not heard of Yandoit.

Gold was first discovered in the area in 1851 and diggers quickly descended on the goldfields and many did well finding alluvial gold. However, it wouldn’t be long before the easier alluvial finds dried up and quartz reef mining took over as the primary means of mining for gold.

These days, nearby Daylesford has become a tourist drawcard, with beautifully maintained historical buildings and streetscapes making this picturesque township worth a visit regardless of whether you’re a prospector or not.

But given how much gold detectors have found in this region in recent years, the fact that a Miner’s Right will get you into the Wombat State Forest and Hepburn Regional Park, has to be tempting for anyone out there with a detector ready to hit the road.

Throughout a GP 3000 and a gp1500 cos I couldn't get batteries in WA, and couldn't be bothered with ordering some off the net. I regret it to say the least 🙄
