That is... worrying. Sony made a lot of bad calls with their games division (look at all those live services and their stories). Them having such a voice inside From Soft is not something I think is good.

The reason why the focus is on From is because it's the most notable brand for worldwide audiences. It's as simple as that. Japan, however, the more important piece is that they hold much more publishing power. 10% of manga sales, 20% of light novel sales, 7% of book sales. They own 10% of the overall market in Japan only behind Shueisha and Kondansha. But, people don't know that and Spike-Chunsoft and Aquire are too niche for people to care. Therefore, FromSoftware is the default headline.

I think it's a bit generous to believe that any non-financial media would focus on FromSoft because of the financials. That's simply the most mainstream relevant Sony division in the west. Manga/anime news probably focus more heavily on the other properties. Though even then, they probably recognise that Playstation is more important to Sony than Crunchyroll.

It's like everyone focused on Activision and to a lesser extent Blizzard during the ABK acquisition. Only the better-researched takes mentioned that financially King is on par with Activision.

I would also like to highlight the whole Sony debacle with FUNimation. Though they dont sell anime episodes or etc that im aware of. It is alarming to think the same company that blatantly disregarded peoples purchased licenses without compensation. Are now in talk to grow that market share. Couple that with the fact they'd get from software alone and you have a recipe for concern in my book.
