I'm torn between a Mac Mini with 16GB and the entry level Mac Studio. I probably don't need the extra power of the Studio, but it has all those extra ports and the M1 Mini is now over a year old. I went overboard with the spec of my current Windows desktop but it's lasted me for 10 years so I think it was money well spent. Will the same hold true of the studio, or should I just go for the mini and plan on replacing it in 3-4 years? Decisions, decisions...

I actually went with a MacBook Air M1 in January 2023. Reason for it is that I don’t do photo or video editing at all. It rather lots of browser tabs bookkeeping emails and such. I don’t have the need for greater graphics or color calibrated display. And it’s still outperforming similarly prized pc laptops. I do work with windows too. Have a Surface Laptop 4 with a core i7. But I work for different companies and like to keep things separate. And since I work in IT it keeps me working with both platforms and OS to stay up to date

I’m set to get a mac studio m1 max upgraded to 2 terabytes ssd and 64 gig memory. I figured it’s still less than the ultra which is above and beyond my needs.

I’d love your insight on this: I’ve been wanting to upgrade my 2014 27” iMac but can't decide between a 24” M1 iMac or wait for Apple to release a 27” iMac Pro (or something similar) I do photography and videography (mostly use Lightroom and Final Cut Pro)

I have a MacBook Pro 2015 and I’m looking to upgrade. I’m now debating whether to get a 14 inch MacBook Pro or the studio and using my current MacBook when I travel. Lots of things to think about.

256GB is not terrible in this day and age. With both iCloud and apps not being all that large, along with more things being streamed these days, storage has started becoming less of a concern once again.

For mass storage, there are plenty of affordable external options which may even be more handy as you are not relying on flash chips soldered to a board.

I received my M1 iMac on Thursday specced with only 256GB storage and even with more apps installed that I have used in the past along with everything else I need, it is still less than half utilised. If I end up needing more some day it’s easy to purchase an external SSD (or HDD if I wanna go even cheaper) for the extra file space. Storage is the one thing that can always be upgraded.

Of course, it’s always worth looking at what you’re using currently and add at least half that again, or double it if money’s less of an issue than peace of mind, It just happened that with my Intel Mac with 1TB Fusion Drive I was using barely any of its capacity.

What advice would you give me? I’m deciding between the 24 inch IMac or the baseline mac studio. I’m starting medical school now in the fall so I wouldn’t really be using it for video editing or photography solely medical school work. However I do want it to last 5+ years. That’s why the studio is in consideration even though I won’t fully maximize its power. I value longevity immensely

You Really needed to mention that the iMac screen has a non detachable power cable so if the damaged by a dog/kid your screwed that’s a big deal!

Hi, thank you for a very informative video. I have an early 2009 iMac 24 that I would like to upgrade, I was waiting for a new 27" but now I'm thinking of buying the iMac 24". I would like to try to do some video editing, would I be able to do it on an iMac 24? An iMac 24" with 16 gigs of ram and 1 terabyte SSD is almost $2, 200, which is more than the price of a new Mac Studio Max . My problem is that I would have to buy a display, which would add another $1000. Which would you buy? When I think a new Mac studio would cost me less than an iMac 24", I feel like it would be a mistake to buy it.

Hey there! Thanks for such a detailed video. I am interested in the way you set up your desk! My desktop is broken and I need to get it replaced. If I bought an Apple M1, could I just connect it to my existing "Planar" display and get macOS (iMessage, iCloud, Photos app, etc.)? My current display is not apple. Could I also just do what you do and buy a macbook air/pro and connect it to my non-Apple display? Thank you very much in advance! I hope you get the chance to reply.
