Also can dial up a bit hotter and straight line weld it. Just need to move faster on it. I dont pattern any welds these days when doing this type of work with wire feed. Hot flat welds and let it sizzle.

It seems in my mind that the slip fits would be the other way. Im guessing that the male end pointing towards the flow source is not a turbulence problem? It's not a back pressure problem. Just a guy whos never done it thinking out loud. 😆
