PLEASE DO NOT SELL THAT BOAT!!!! that transom is not safe. All you need is some poor family to go offshore, the transom fails, the boat sinks and someone's kid drowns. HUGE LIABILITY ISSUES How would you live with yourself after that. Dear God. Please watch over anyone who steps foot on that vessel. Amen. Cut that transom out and re-do it properly don't be foolish. I hope it's not to late already

This is crazy I've never worked on boat glassing. But have worked with specialty glassing for many years. The process looks right but your laminating job is lacking. The fiber should fully soak the resin. When bonding you should use a more viscous resin so its thicker and hold to gravity so when they are clamped or screwed together the resin can ooze out. Alot like bonding two piece's of wood with wood glue. Any air is a weak spot that will spread. Only a matter of time.

Way too much air left in that glass, would never pass a CG inspection Takes more than a few seconds of mixing for ant two part system.

Please god if you are going to do a transom replacement laminate the glass properly in between the coosa. That has minimal strength in the middle where strength is imperative. On top of that, you never lay woven glass straight onto any coring material. Always chop strand mat against the core. Then woven. Then chop. Alternating. Or 1708 would be ideal. To keep going, glass should be completely wet out and saturated with resin before you add another layer over it. Just putting more resin is NOT THE SOLUTION. Resin rich laminates are highly prone to cracking and failure. Please do things correctly before trying to show the public how to do them

I don't know much about fiberglass, but air pockets this big? Good luck with that transom lasting...

Your whole layup is dry ! Those cuts you made needed to be bonded back together. That transom is going to flex ..

Yes I know what I'm talking about before anyone pipes off !

You did a very poor job you did not roll all the air pockets out THAT WILL FALL APPART DO IT OVER

DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO!!!

This was done the complete wrong way and the creator needs to change the title on how NOT TO repair a transom. The fiberglass how to is wrong and the transom could fall right off. There is no "as much air as possible" when rolling fiberglass. Roll ALL the air out and FULLY wet the fiberglass, not wet the fiberglass "as best you can."

Also there is not enough structural support in that transom. You need to wrap completely around the transom with fiberglass. That coosa and glass you added will eventually fall right off the back once an outboard goes on there. You literally have resin holding that section of transom on. You needed fiberglass to run from the port gunnel around the transom, to the stbd gunnel.

Man that was hard to watch . You need to cut that out start again. As others said massive amounts of air and dry matting . Either miss matched components or in my experience your trying to do way to large sections at once . Pity as you cut it out so well

Almost everyone who are doing this are not using enough resin like this dude.

Dude. E for effort, but you didn’t wet it out near enough. The mat should be virtually see through.

Those are some dry layups.. You needed way more resin...

Rule number one .... Do not trap air between layers of materal. !!!!

Should of replaced that transom from the inside.period, and you know it !

It's so important to mix the mekt properly. That includes scraping the sides of the bucket while mixing. The reason why he's getting away with it is that he is mixing and stirring in the mekt every time he uses the roller. If you are working from a bucket, stir the mekt thoroughly. Nothing worse than resin that does not cure.

Thickened epoxy would have been stronger to bond the coosa boards together

Matt before woven. And don’t spare the resin

seems like there was no taper /overlap joint to the existing hull where it joins the transom.. what is to stop this butt joint from separating when under stress?there is a formula for the taper , I may be wrong, but logics says otherwise.

You never keep apply glass when there are clearly dry fibers.
