Development of a Data-driven Psychedelic Therapy Network
Jessica Nielson Ph.D.

The Sleeping Octopus Assembly on Psychedelics (SOAP) is an intimate conference that explored the role of psychedelics in science, medicine, policy, and culture, which took place at a historic mansion in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from July 13-15, 2018.

This conference featured presentations from key figures in the psychedelic research and policy community, a psychedelic-themed comedy show, live musical performances, and a benefit dinner for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). We hope you enjoy the content from this unique opportunity that inspired and united local communities in a creative setting, the recently-remodeled historic mansion known as the "Sleeping Octopus."

Founded in 1986, the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and educational organization that develops medical, legal, and cultural contexts for people to benefit from the careful uses of psychedelics and marijuana.

Excellent talk. Thanks for posting, as always. This channel adds to the credibility of this movement, that she mentions early in the talk. It's great work MAPS does! Thank you

I grew up with little affection raised to be isolated and friendless. I had mental issues since 13 related to religious superstition and sleep deprivation and it spiked in college then I had severe delusions and paranoia/anxiety and I had to drop out. I am diagnosed with schizophrenia, adhd, and strongly suspect I have seasonal affective disorder. Gimme psychedelics! I have 0% conscious thought superstition levels lol (an atheist now). But my subconscious thought is loony, and if I have poor sleep, with caffeine at night, with social stress and poor sunlight, that kinda stuff, then I ruminate and get angry and depressed and imagine self harm or violence more and socialize very badly online really conflict prone when I get that way. Also Ayahuasca you shit your brains out potentially right, wouldn't peyote be slightly better? I can't think more right now have stuff to do.

It’s good to finally hear actual science about psychedelic therapies instead of rhetoric and ill informed propaganda! One study i would LOVE to participate in would be about the anxiety faced by veterans with multiple co-morbidities including Multiple Sclerosis and other SCI/D issues. It’s not end of life anxiety so much as continued life anxiety. When you’re facing life in a wheelchair or very likely to be in a wheelchair, and you look at accessibility trends across the nation, I really believe that, if you’re NOT anxious, you’re likely already dead!

Excellent presentation on so many levels, I'm still processing ...
One note to presenter and community at large - would you please use the proper scientific term when referring to cannabis?
Marijuana is a slang term with lots of baggage. Thanks. =)
