A little about me:
My name's Minoo, and I'm originally from Iran.
I obtained my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Diploma in England in 1985.
Since then, I've been an English teacher, teacher trainer, and course director in various schools and countries. I'm also a trained confidence coach.
In 2008, my son, Tom, and I set up the Anglo-Link platform for online English studies.
This led to the creation of our popular YouTube channel in 2011.
My passion is to share with you what I've learnt on my own English language journey, both as a student and as a teacher, so that you can become a fluent speaker of English too.

In the expression 'look forward to', 'to' is a preposition.  As you know, a verb after a preposition is always in the gerund form.
Other examples are 'be used to', 'be entitled to', 'commit oneself to'.

Yes, 'being' is used in Passive Continuous forms.
It is also used when the verb 'to be' needs to be in the gerund form: 'Thank you for being here.'

Standard British pronunciation is what you find transcribed in all British English dictionaries. This is what I would recommend everyone in terms of their own pronunciation.Collins online dictionary would be a good source for this. The variety of accents in British English is staggering, and Received Pronunciation or Queen's English is one of them. I don't think you should avoid hearing any particular accent. Familiarity with as many accents as possible would certainly be useful.

Generally speaking, formal English is used in professional contexts, and informal English with family and friends.

Accent and pronunciation are the hardest things to correct, but if you are motivated you can do it by putting in the time and the effort. The first step to improving your pronunciation is improving your sound recognition, and then lots of repetition of the correct sounds. I suggest you start by watching my video lesson on 'Learn English Listening Skills', and the two lessons on 'Vowels & Diphthongs'.

For the speaking part, you need to improve your pronunciation and fluency in using the structures. You can either practise with a teacher, who can correct your grammar and pronunciation mistakes as you talk, or you can practise with recorded materials where you repeat after a model. You can find this type of material on the Anglo-Link website.
