To the people who say that these friends are real friends:

I ran with a group of friends like these in college. We mocked each other and it was fun but we had problems and we covered it up with dark humor. We rarely talked about deep problematic stuff because we risked being made the butt of the joke for being sappy or too sensitive. All we did was joke around and laugh.

I was at my lowest to the point of being an anorexic nervous mess and I could not approach any one of them. One of us broke down after losing a mom and the others just avoided the awkward conversation. Once I had too much after a professor yelled at me for a bad performance. It crushed me because I worked so hard on it. I got called a pussy and laughed at by about half of them when they found me crying and sulking outside. The other half was silent or laughed half heartedly I dunno, I was a bit distracted. I got shit for that for the rest of the semester, no matter how much I laughed along or told them to drop it.

I am aware that the guy was laughing in the original and that's fine since they know each other well enough not to take it as truth but let's not normalize toxic platonic relationships. Tearing each other down or for the sake of laughs or ignoring someone asking for help shouldn't be the norm.
