ELO rules! Gotta agree with, "Tightrope". It's so epic, there are only a few songs in the entire ELO catalog that could potentially beat it: "Evil Woman", "Livin' Thing", "Telephone Line", and, "Mr. Blue Sky".

Both terrific songs. Showdown has a great beat and shows signs of musical exploration. But I have to give the edge to Tightrope. I love the big orchestral opening that suddenly turns to full-on rock as soon as that lead guitar kicks in. This song is indicative of Jeff Lynne's ever-present visionary musical genius in complexity and trademark superior production. (I'm well 😄🙃😄 )

Showdown, earlier E.L.O. Raw and powerful.

Tightrope is my all-time favorite ELO song, while Showdown is only in my top 20 ELO songs, so easy pick for me! Being an ELO fan though, both are fantastic songs to my ear-Lynne's detailed production and flexible voice shine through on both.

Tightrope is my second favorite ELO song. I love the opening with the strings. What a great way to start the album A New World Record.

These happened to be my two favorite ELO songs. There's no way I can pick a winner.

E.L.O has been such a huge part of my life . Special memories. Words are not enough to describe my love for them . My E. L. O vinyls are my all time faves.Jeff Lynne is a Genius songwriter, singer and producer . Tightrope has to win this battle but I don't like to choose between their songs really ! 😊A Great point Shawn that Tightrope is their more typical sound and stands out more. But a great battle here Arnie . Thankyou Guys for another Epic one ! 👍

Good choice.

Tightrope is in a class all by itself. Its lyrics express so much complexity with depression and anxiety. When the transition goes to an upbeat tempo, the lyrics express the positive self talk we all find ourselves in when we're in that state of mind. What an incredible and underrated song.

Showdown is more of a dealing and coping with a break up and weathering the storm. It's not my favorite.

Both good songs which I love. Not keen on rating songs (or albums) against each other because variety is a good thing and can enjoy both and appreciate the differences. 🙂

I believe Jeff Lynne's impact on the history of classic rock will continue to grow when more people discover how many artists he produced and wrote with. From Harrison, Tom Petty, The Beatles; the list is endless.

Tightrope sure is a hard one to beat - by any band

Tightrope is my favorite too. When you mentioned synthesizers, I always thought ELO didn’t use synthesizers but you’re absolutely right they do use them. I thought that it was all live orchestration. I have a suggestion how about doing a battle of Penny Lane snd Strawberry Fields forever?

I would and could not choose between any E L O songs
as they are all the same but oh so different
hard to explain
Lennon also said
"if the Beatles had continued they would probably have sounded something like ELO "
cant say fairer than that

Tightrope, I've just discovered it, how Jeff Lynne wrote this in 1976 is unbelievable.
Tickets now for 2025 being sold, Jeff will be 78 years old ❤
