CLS course, the whole class used me as the i.v. stick pig.

Remember, pain is the patient’s problem. If that mfer is screaming and cursing, his airway is good and he is alert.

High and tight if you need a hasty and can't see the wound if you can a good rule of thumb is 2 inches above the wound unless at an elbow or knee for obvious reasons you don't want a tourniquet right on a joint

Tourniquet position depends entirely upon the location of the injury. It could be placed near the wrist, elbow or shoulder for the arm or at the ankle, knee or hip for the leg. They cannot be placed (obviously) on the neck or torso

And the humour. It gives you an idea of how coherent the subject is

You dont strictly need to go all the way to the end of the limb, a couple inches above the wound will do and in an extreme case it will save a bigger portion of the limb, however if under not permissible situations to plan for this it is the best thing you could do, please dont apply tourniquets in joints.

Different for a head injury tho. It goes low on the neck👍🏻

Dont forget the tourniquet hurts more than the bullet wound when done properly.

to clarify: high and tight is for situations where you cant tell exactly where the bleed is. if the bleed is easily located 3 inches above the wound will suffice

And the crocs compliment and laughter are also not a bad idea if their lucid and aware, youd be surprised how far someone will go with a good mindset

You only do high and tight when you're under fire.

You're suppose to do a couple inches above the wound if you have the ability for a more detailed assessment.

One thing I'm super appreciative of of modern IFAKs they all come with a mini sharpie so you can write that shit down.

That's great advice. High up on the limb, tighten down, if it's on the leg give the peepee a graze, make eye contact, give the soldier a little smooch, and send him on his way with a light butt pat. It's all just SOP.

Teaching the CLS trainees is probably the best gig I ever pulled. Nothing like training people to make sure their buddies don't die. Though, I didn't hear anyone screaming while this training was going on 😂 think I still have a video of me demonstrating doing NPAs on myself.

Military teaches high and tight for a number of reasons but if you’re not in a combat zone and can clearly see the wound site, 2-3 inches above wound is fine.

If all fails, remember: a tourniquet on the neck will ensure no further medical attention is needed. ****please know that I am joking!****
