Met a very ambitious articulate Nigerian. He told me he can't figure black Americans out. They laughed at him because he spoke well and chased education. What's worse, he said white people were the ones cheering and encouraged him. It's embarrassing.

Totally relate to this...90% of bullying which took place in my life was by my own people.

Hi Candace,
I’m a black woman and I appreciate you for being smart and articulate. We need more of us expressed who God made us. Keep shining 😊

Real talk. My actual FAMILY made fun of me for the way I spoke. Said I was acting like a "white girl" because I was smart and used proper enunciation 🤷🏾‍♀️

I can relate to this. My whole life I’ve been called “white girl”. It used to hurt me, but not anymore. I refuse to dumb myself down for anyone.

I grew up in the hood. Ppl would talk mad shit if you paid attention or were interested in learning. I didn't learn shit until I got old enough to not care what ppl thought but by then it had already put me at a disadvantage. Stay strong and don't buy into the narrative

I'm the male version of her. That cafeteria story happened to me too. Still don't listen to rap this day. Don't let it make or break you. Always be better and different

Some people are jealous because you’re not suffering the way they expect you to!

The same happened to me. I was bullied for years because I read books at lunch, didn't kiss on boys or go to house parties. I wish our community wasn't like this.

Candace is pure kryptonite to leftists given she's beautiful, intelligent, well spoken, and confident in who she is. Love the woman. And that's coming from an older white guy.

I was bullied by my own people, because my skin wasn’t too dark. 😢 My whole life I was told that I am not black, because I have light skin. I was born and raised in East Africa 😅

So many of us within our community have experienced this for the same reasons! Speaking correct English, being too quiet, enjoying reading, making good grades, was always problematic.
Your own "tribe" abandons you and ridicules you. It is so destructive and continues to exist from youth and into adulthood. She is telling the truth ! "It still exists" It shows exactly how much " self hatred" exists in the Black female community! I will remember how she just described this behavior as " this invisible social contract" of not being black enough" ! Thank you for this video! You are not drinking any hot sauce today! We need to start a real conversation about this!

Cardi B isn't a Black Woman! All blk ppl are not the same, Candace was made fun of in highschool & she still have this animosity as an adult! Girl bye, not all blk ppl in the blk community is like the girl from the lunch room or class!!!

I didn’t go home for thanksgiving because of this. Like, I’m GROWN and still going through this riff of “thinking I know it all” and not fitting into their Black hood worlds. I refuse to be taught to hate myself n apologize for being who I am. I have legacy to build and so does everyone else who is fighting for something bigger than themselves. Do your thing Candace, we exist!

My mother's siblings STILL are in their feelings about when my mother was a child and would sit in the tree to READ BOOKS!!! They bring it up to this day, and my mom is STILL affected by how her sisters made her feel!! Reading was her escape from the reality of their childhood. I commend my mother, as she is filled with knowledge!!

They use to tease me in highschool for the way I spoke.

Candice is smart AND beautiful and they are intimdated. No matter her race, she would be bullied by her female peers for this. "Am I intimidating or are you intimidated?"
