I got tired of watching tons of videos on what display to buy vs. the APS. I finally just went to the Apple store and bought the APS along with the magic keyboard, mouse and trackpad.
LOVE IT. Glad I made this decision. Running with my Macbook Pro 16" M4 MAX with 64g ram and 4tb internal. :). I am a pro photographer, magazine publisher and own a sound studio in Hollywood and this is my fav setup since forever. ;)

I own two 27" 5K Retina ASDs, the displays are bright at 600 nits, the colors are vivid and accurate with the ultrawide P3 color gamut, the build quality is unparalleled, and the embedded acoustics fantastic. No macOS scaling issues with the TEXT being sharp and crisp at 5K 218 PPI compared to the blurry and distorted eye straining text of inferior 4K monitors esp while viewing code, documents, web pages etc from close distance.

I personally evaluated multiple 4K, 5K, 6K displays from third party incl Samsung, LG, Dell, BenQ at stores for hours and still ended up purchasing the ASDs for my M2 ultra studio and M4 Pro Mac Mini setups !

I am waiting to buy the next generation 32" 6K all OLED 120 Hz promotion pro XDR display with xHDR at 2500 nits and 1000, 000 + : 1 contrast ratio, VESA adapter and 360 degree arm. I'd prefer state of art embedded speakers and 4K webcam, plus multiple TB5 ports for daisy chaining multiple units.

macOS was never designed to work optimally with non-retina PPI including 32" 4K displays. The retina alignmemt happens at 4K - 21", 4.5K - 24", 5K - 27", 6K - 32". Looking forward to an ultrawide curved 8K 38"-40" OLED pannel from Apple too.

The webcam on these is average and for that I use Insta 360 Link 2 which I found better than Osbot Tiny2.

With the availability of thunderbolt 5 now, an upgrade of the studio display to a tandem oled, 5k 120hz monitor would be incredible. (An adjustable stand should be stock.)

I think manufacturing at scale would allow for a cheaper product and far more sales.

If I was buying now, I’d def buy a cheaper 5K monitor that comes STANDARD with height adjustability and a nano display such as the newBenQ.

But if they release a mini LED, 5K, Pro Motion update they will be right back to being ahead of the competition.

I agree. Never mind the specs. $1600 price tag is impossible to justify. I currently use a Samsung 4K 28 inch display with Mac Mini. It cost $299.

I have 3 ASDs connected to my 2019 Mac Pro and I also am frustrated that I cannot play left/right sound channels on two monitors. Tried the MIDI route, but no joy.

Love the monitors, just wish they had larger Adobe RGB Gamut for my commercial print jobs.

I feel like im FORCED to buy an Apple Studio display to use with the Mac mini M4 Pro. Because I'm using Mac mini m4 pro for complex documentary video editing, music production & writing ebooks. Here's why I feel forced:

4k monitors:
I need a 27-inch because of space limitations. If I buy any 4K 27-inch monitor, then MacOS will either scale everything too big or too tiny. If I change the scale at a comfortable size, which is perfect at a 1440p resolution, then it hinders the performance while video editing. (Ive seen other youtubers have to return there 3rd party 4k screens because the performance hindrance) 4k 24 inch would work great but are basically non existant at this point. So 4k monitors are already out of the question🚫

1440p monitors:
These monitors have the right scaling size but show text blurry, which won't work for me looking at text all day trying to write an ebook. So 1440p is then out of the question, same thing with 1080p.

Therefore I am forced to buy the apple studio display which cost the same price as a used car because of scaling issues as its the only display that won't have scaling issues and will have sharp enough text to stare at all day.

(I know 4k displays worm fine with simple things like browsing the Web, photo editing, writing etc. But if you are planning to high quality video editing for YouTube then you only have 2 options. 1440p or 5k.) I feel that Apple has Purposly made it like this so that if you buy one of there computers for creative work you will buy their display if you want the computer performance you paid for.... enslaving the consumer to their apple products.

I tried the latest WOLED from LG and the Alienware QD-OLED and was very underwhelmed with the brightness of both. IPS and mini LED are still better in terms of brightness. Also, I love the pixel density of 5K at 27" on my studio display. Sure the 60 Hz refresh, but I prefer it over my 27" 4k 144 Hz LG.

I hope we'll see new Apple displays in 2025. Any new products going forward must be 120 Hz minimum refresh rate.

I honestly think Apple will NOT release an update to their displays before they have Thunderbolt 5 added to their M line of SOCs. TB5 has enough bandwidth to support 120Hz in a +5k display. As Apple tends to not update their displays for many years, it would be strange for Apple to release a display without TB5 as it would be outdated for most of its planned lifetime. My hope is that Apple will release a new display alongside the M4 Mac Studio which is supposedly going to be released sometime between March and June next year. And hopefully, the M4 Ultra will also come with TB5.

Great video! Your comment on oled being easier on your eyes is starting to make me think I should go that route over the studio display? What about it is easier on the eyes? Also, for a coding only use case, would you recommend an oled or
studio display?

One note about promotion, I’ve heard thunderbolt 4 doesn’t support the bandwidth needed to do 5k 120hz, so until a better spec comes out, there’s not much that can be done there

They were $1250 on Amazon prime, if it’s $1250 for Black Friday I’m getting one. If apple comes out with a new one I’ll wait till it’s a good sale then this one will be my secondary monitor.

OK they're working on something. Not replacing the Studio display after 2 years. So expect a $6, 000 monitor. Remember it's rumoured that a new mouse will take years now to put a usb 3 in it. Secondly, this display is so crippled I'm surprised the power plug isn't a $600 option. It's too bad they've gone all in on greed - it is we that suffer from being caught in the Apple trap.

Aren't OLED panels a massive problem with burn-in and degradation and stuff like that? I can't imagine people paying $2000 for a display and have it fail on them after 2 years, that would cripple Apple's reputation and it might be why they haven't taken the plunge yet. LG and co don't really care if you think they suck, they sell by price and glitz not reputation, Apple depends heavily on their reputation since that is why people bite the bullet and pay their premium

My predicament is that I need to buy a new 27" Mac compatible monitor in the near future. I'm a graphic designer so accurate color and high resolution are two important considerations for me.

I spoke with an Apple rep today and he said that even though competing models are very close on paper, there's a very noticeable difference between 98% colo accuracy and 96%. I'm not a tech guy so all these specs are confusing to me. Does anyone have any suggestions for another monitor that can match Apple's color accuracy and resolution?

But the speakers on most monitors are terrible, and many don’t even have a camera. USB-C ports are usually lacking, and you often get a bulky power brick instead of a streamlined design. Plus, most monitors stick to the same cheap plastic build with inconveniently placed ports on the bottom. I rather keep my Studio Display no questions asked.

Why are you saying that Apple needs to do not say that you want things!

I’ll also say if you can’t recommend a better option, maybe this video is just clickbait. Make a reco. There isn’t one out there. Apple makes the best display for their computers hands down. Not Ben Q. Not Samsung. Not LG. Not Dell.

yeh I'm going with the MSI 240Hz 321URX QD-OLED for 900$ Apple can keep their "NICE" overpriced outdated display tech!
